Well I have been using Keyboards for the last 30 years and have never seen a ABCD keyboard until I brought a TOM TOM Go. I know you can get them but they are few and far between.Smile

The point I was trying to make to Jeystone (and I've made the same point in this forum before) is that GO is an international device. It is produced by a Dutch company, and sold throughout Europe and the USA.

Most languages apart from English use accented characters, which are not present on a QWERTY keyboard. Even without taking these into account, the QWERTY layout itself is devised according to the frequency of use of letters in English and many foreign keyboards differ(for example, in Germany it's QWERTZ, in France it is AWERTY).

Most of these countries have adapted their alphabets to account for the fact that the browsers do not support accented characters For example I live in Munich, which in German is München. Because the umlaut is not supported in most (all?) common browsers you have to spell it Muenchen. This is a right royal pain in the arse, especially when trying to search for something - imagine if when searching for Croyden you always had to remember type in Croeden or something? And that's always assuming whoever created the website used the same alternative spelling you are.
Anyway, you get used to it, but it's not ideal.

The point is that, I bet in order to cover the most countries that use the Arabic character set, TomTom chose an ABCD keyboard. Now, it may not be great, it may not suit everyone, but you CAN use it almost everywhere in Europe without too much trouble.

If TomTom chose a QWERTY keyboard, they'd all the non-QWERTY users. Sure, they could provide country-specific keyboards but maybe they just want to keep it as simple, generic and cheap as possible. More bells and whistles = more cost.

And does it REALLY slow things down that much..after all your're not touch typing, you're finger picking... Smile
