hello everybody,
Can anybody tell me why Garmin has to different map software for Europe? City Select and City Navigator? I know that one is compatible to some Satnav devices (e.g. Quest) and the other one compatible to other devices (e.g. StreetPilot). Do you know wich is the most complete/updated map? And why do they have two different ones?
Thanks a lot.

A bit of a difficult question - I have always wondered too. Confused

I found this quote on a website, it is attibuted to Garmin but I haven't verified it.

Those three models (SPIII/2610/2650) can take Euro City Select maps unlocked to them and will automatic route and voice prompt with them. Euro City Navigator is the overall best for them, but City Select is the best available (and a good) alternative. City Nav makes use of all the routing attributes available from NavTech and the routes Nav makes with a SPIII/2610/2650 can thus be better than those made with City Select. For a specific... Nav has a few more turn restriction types the SPIII/2610/2650 can use... it basically makes one of these units a bit smarter than Select would.

City Select certainly does contain all the basic restrictions, no left/right turn and no entry but it sounds like City Navigator has a lot more information than City Select.

You can set your vehicle type to taxi or bus so perhaps City Nav contains information about bus/taxi only roads and other restrictions like this.
