Hard Wire BT Tom Tom GPS Unit

I'm sure this has been asked many times before, so I apologise in advance.

I have a HP2210 with TT3 and TT Bluetooth GPS unit. I would like to hard wire the GPS unit within the boot under the parcel shelf out of site. I have bought an additional power lead to plug into a to be fitted 12v supply in the boot rather than the rj45? cable from the TT cradle.

Because the unit is in the boot it would be inconvenient to manually turn the unit on and off. My query is this, if the power supply to the GPS unit is ignition switched, when the ignition is turned off, does the GPS unit power down, or does it stop on until the battery runs out. I could use a permanent supply to the unit which would mean it was permanently on, but then I risk flattening the battery, although this may take some time.

The TomTom BT GPS is not suited for permanent in-car fitting. It has a sftware power button which needs to be manually operated .

If you really want to hard wire a BT receiver into the car, get one with a hardware power switch (Emtac etc)

Sadly when the TT BT GPS was originally released it came with a seperate car cradle that provided for ignition controlled power On/Off (that's what the two gold contacts are on the GPS).

TomTom dropped this a year or so ago and it is no longer available. Aside from providing a permanent 12v supply there is no simple solution and as Lutz has pointed out, because this unit has a software power switch it is unsuited to such use

In that case the solution would be to connect it to a permanent live and leave it switched on all the time. Would this do it any harm, and how long would it take to drain the car battery? Can't understand why TT have stopped making the docking stations.
