Hi,
I know there's already loads of post about this but I can't seem to find any with my problem.
I've just bought a Fortuna Clip on (Bluetooth) and I've connected it to my IPAQ H4150. I upgraded the Tomtom GPS Driver to 3.03 for Tomtom 3.
I've got the GPS settings as "NMEA 0183v2 38400" and "Bluetooth Serial Port COM6" (I know a few of the post state COM8 but that definitely doesn't work for me). I've also tried NMEA Bluetooth and several others but the result is the same.
What happens is that the GPS Driver has the black dotted line and picks up the GPS position. When I start Tomtom it displays the signal strength and shows the number of satellites connected, if you plot and drive a route it regonises your GPS position is changing and gives directions BUT it constantly shows the GPS unplugged icon, so because it doesn't think you're connected to a GPS receiver the backlight on the IPAQ goes off after the default period - which isn't much use as you then can't see the scren.
I've reset my IPAQ, reset the GPS receiver (ran down the power and recharged) - if anyone can help I'd be grateful otherwise I think I'll be returning the product. |

Hello and
The Bluetooth COM port you use changes from device to device; on some iPAQs it's COM8:, on some it's COM6:, on some it's COM5:. You use whichever is correct for your model.
The rest is nothing to do with the GPS configuration; it's because you have no external power applied. You can change the power and backlight settings in Settings (Start Menu, Settings, System tab, then choose either Power or Backlight) to stop the backlight going off and the machine powering down. You can also make use of the option in TomTom GPS (it's the left hand of the two sliders - drag it to the right hand position) to stop the machine powering down when TomTom GPS is running - though make very sure that TomTom GPS has stopped (and if not, soft reset) when you've finished using Navigator, otherwise you can land up with a flat battery if you're not careful. You can also turn off the 'no power' icon using the option to do that amongst the Properties in TomTom Navigator.
However, I suggest you power the iPAQ in car instead. My preferred way to do this is a Brodit active mount. If you shop around, you can get mounts that allow you to power the Bluetooth GPS in car so that you won't run the battery in that down even on the longest of journeys.
