Hi
As the title says im after a cheap ext. antenna for a Navman 510, any think will do as long as it has a decent amount of wiring and has an MCX connector.
Advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi 225, if you go to the review section and look at reviews for GPS Accessories and then go to Battery Re-Rad Antennas you can read Dave's excellent review on the PC Mobile antenna. I bought one of these from the company in Hong Kong (don't let that put you off they were brilliant, if you want any info just e-mail them, rapid response) and I'm in the UK for about £27 (approx $54 if I remember correctly), it only took about 5 days to arrive and it works just fine, don't worry about the plug for your iCN 510 as all you have to do is hook the end of the lead onto the 510 aerial as it has a loop on it (ideal for using on other units as well (I use it on my Garmin 12) plus you can use it away from a power source and the batteries really do last a long time. You get a choice of plugs when you buy it but I went for the MX as it was smaller. Hope this helps.

Team225 -
Do you find that you can acquire satelites faster using the external antenna? I have used my in the car, but haven't wired it to the outside yet. I don't want to hassle with it if it isn't going to add much. Play with it and let me know your opinion.
Thanks! |

Hi,
Played with it today...
1) It has a stronger signal
2) When starting from cold it starts acquires satelites faster than before.
Pretty impressed.
Will let you know how it goes on route, atm seems okay and signal stays strong most of the time. |

team225,
is yours a standard mmcx antenna?
i ordered mine from ebay the other day (i searched under 'mmcx antenna'). paid £13. should be here soon.
hopefully mine will be similar to yours because the slow TTFF (time to first fix) was frustrating me and sometimes it fails to lock on at all even out in the open!
if it does improve the TTFF, i will be very happy :D |

Hi,
Yes it is a standard MMCX antenna, probably the same one as yours.
Yes it does improve the TTFF.#
Where is your navman located out of interest and where will the antenna be located? |

cheers for the reply mate.
i place my navman on the right side of the windscreen.
about the antenna, im not really sure where to place it. ideally, i would like it at the front-center of the roof. however, im not sure how the wiring will work in this case. also, i will only have 2m of cable, i think?
where have you put yours and how is it wired?
also, i have an aerial at the front of the roof. will this interfere with the gps signal? |
