Switch between maps possible?

I own a 'Garmin Etrex Legend C' with 'City Select Europe'. Im thinking of buying a Garmin-compatible topographic map as well.

My question: is there any way I can download map-areas from both 'City select' AND a topographic map on to my 'Legend C' - then switch between them from the unit itself? Or must I choose either one or the other from the PC only? It seems that old maps stored on Garmin-units always gets erased then new maps is downloaded.
