It's actually pretty easy. You need to make sure the old GPS driver is really, really removed - to be on the safe side delete ttgpseng.exe - and then re-install the new GPS engine. This should get you going. Select "Other BT" in the setup and then pick your outgoing BT COM port from the list.

PS. Don't throw the TTN2.24 away yet - it has a number of features that are missing from the new version.

Can you tell me the path to the GPS folder and where ttgpseng.exe is?

Thank you

OK so I did as suggested and it worked !!! However after closeing TOMTOM and my PDA down and then restarting it and TOMTOM I had the same Problem.
Then I did the same again, deleted all file and re-installed again and it worked, but shuting it down and starting it again, it stops working.
Any suggestions???

have a look in the \windows\startup folder, there may be some suspicious activites.

Also, another option is that the old engine has registered itself into the wakeup notification - but that's less likely

Are you familiar with the registry?

Here is what I see in the Startup directory on the PDA

I see one link to TomTom Navigater

In the Startup>Programs Folder I see a short cut to GPS.

I should be able to work in editing the registry I have done it on the PC many times. never on pda, but how diffrent can that be Smile

Thank you for your support.

I am having a problem with TomTom Navigator2004 and the TomTom Bluetooth GPS. It may be related.

Whenever I power down the iPaq and power-up, it does not find the GPS. I need to do a hardware reset of the iPaq and connect the bluetooth serial output. Sometimes, it takes two tries.

Is there a known method to shut down and power up that finds the connection?

i power down and power up my ipaq4150 without terminating TT2004 and never had any issues with the software detecting the GPS bluetooth signal.

However, bluetooth troubles abound during the first few uses. I just played around with the configure GPS options by switching to generic bluetooth GPS, and then back to TT bluetooth, and I never had any problems again.

I hope you mean a soft reset.

There is a universal cure to all TTN Bluetooth problems. DO NOT INSTALL the GPS drivers above 2.07 . Just DON'T DO IT!!!

For TTN2004 you will have to install the GPS driver 2.07 and then replace the ttgpseng.exe with the one from TTN2004

I have tried installing 2.04 drivers as Lutz suggested, but still the issue did not go away. However I have found a workaround.
After starting TT Navigator I need to configure my GPS to TT cable GPS and then back to other Bluetooth device. When I do that I get to choose Bluetooth as an option and it works for that session.

So this is annoying put workable.

lbendlin - it is an iPaq 3970. By hardware reset, I mean the recessed button on the bottom of the iPaq, which I call a hardware reset (a soft reset, to me, would be the equivalent of a PC Ctrl-Alt-Del).

mciortea - I will try your workaround tomorrow. Thanks.

Thank godness. What you really do IS a soft reset. A hard reset involves three more buttons to be pressed at the same time, and will wipe out your complete iPAQ (minus the ROM).

There is a BT stack update available for the 3970 (if you run 2003) and a ROM upgrade plus SD/BT driver update (if you run 2002) . Please make sure you have that installed.

I am running 2003, but I am looking all over Microsoft's Windows Mobile site, and I don't see new bluetooth drivers. There is the ActiveSync 3.7.1 upgrade, which I probably need anyway - does that include the latest bluetooth stack? A pointer would be appreciated. Thanks for your help so far.
