Hello,
Great forum guys.
Could anyone please advise me if my system is working correctly.
Current set up:
-TomTom nav2 running on Fujitsu-Siemens pocket loox 600.
-Wired tomtom GPS receiver
-tomtom custom in car kit with receiver plugged into it.

Problem: The update/refresh rate seems very slow. The screen moves in a series of jerks which seem to correspond to the flashing of the green light on the receiver i.e. about once a second. This causes quite a delay in positioning information and speed etc.

I was previously running the system with a GPSmart connected via bluetooth and the route scrolled very smoothly with what seemed like continuous update of positional information. I stopped using this system as the bluetooth was unreliable and then the GPSmart conked out!

Does this seem normal operation for this set up? Is there anything which can be suggested ti improve matters as it's quite irritating :x

Thanks in advance
Matt[/b]

Did you get the latest update for Tomtom 2?

I think it was 2.24 and included an update for the GPs

You should be able to find it on the tomtom site

If it's a serial receiver then you should be running it at the standard settings - NMEA standard at 4800. Can you confirm that?

HI there,
thanks for responses.
Yes, i have the latest updates, and it performs the same if it runs on NMEA 4800 or on the tomtom navigator option.

Does it sound like it should be performing better?
Thanks
Matt

Don't forget that GPS updates come only every second. so what you have seen to be continuous updates is just a neat interpolation trick by the software.

OK Confused
So why was it scrolling neatly with the BT connection and not now?

It also seems to be associated with quite a lag such that:
1) It still displays a speed for 3-4s when I've stopped and the opposite when I start.
2) It is difficult to know where you are on the road especially at complex junctions or roundabouts.
3) Compared with the tomtom GO my father in law has just bought, the reaction/response times are pathetic.

I can't believe this is how it is meant to operate. I guess I will need to find someone else with a tomtom wired receiver to try theirs and eliminate or implicate the receiver in the equation.
Can anyone with a wired tomtom receiver comment on theirs?
Could it be the cradle?

regards
Matt
