What I do is set the warning dustance to 1500 yards, so the warnings usually come early enough for me to take an alternative route.

The lowbridges.com instructions recommend 500+ yards but I haven't had a problem using a much earlier alert.

I agree it would be handy if Navigator had an 'avoid POI on route' mode though.

Unfortunately the ability to set your own road speed ratings has been removed from Tom Tom 5. However, if you don't mind a "backward" step Tom Tom 3 for Pocket PC does allow this. I used it with great success for Private Hire use, and I'm sure it would work on a truck too.

Cheers

I did used to use tomtom 3 and it produced some great routes 99% of the time I haven't had much chance to play with cp6 since the update was brought out but some quick tests routes in planning looked promisng but iGO still has the edge for roteplanning in my book

Sad Question Just to add another voice, I have met many others who have other Go versions being used on LGV/HGV/Caravan? etc. and they all wish there was an update using height restriction alarms on the ol' TOM TOM. If enough of us ask-- Maybe it will happen----Maybe.
Appart from this, Most of us are very happy with the TOM TOM.

Hear hear. I'm having the same problems. I've not been driving large vehicles long. At least having a GPS system means I'm not struggling with maps and things, but there have been occasions where I've come to a road with a weight/height restriction and have ended up in sticky situations! The lowbridges.com thing seems good, but I really think TomTom ought to provide the software. Let's bombard them! Laughing

use poi extend to get to get the extra warnings

you will get the warning remember tomtom is designed for cars not trucks

there is nothing avaiable that will avoid poi

chirs it wont make any difference the market is to small to justify the costs of the data and extra data and routing information in the application the costs wouldnt justify the development

it may come in 2-3 years time but i cant see it happening sooner

both navteQ and teleatlas have produced hgv routeing and data in to the map data they supply to tomtom and other suppliers but as yet know one has taken up the data

Really? I'm clearly a bit naiive when it comes to all this, but I would have thought with the number of trucks on the road these days, there was plenty call for it, no?

So would I, and the ability to avoid particular locations could be useful to all of us. In my case anything which goes through Cheltenham when the races are on - a 20 mile detour would be quicker!

After all, not all of us have, or even want traffic information.

If you had checked the Posting date, you would have seen that it was pre-V6 Software. Navigate to Lat/Long didn't arrive until V6.

At that time the GO could not Navigate to Latitude, Longitude.

Just to let you know. ;)
