Hi from Scotland, I hope this is the right room for this, I have a Medion from Aldi which is brilliant as a GPS, but i got a wi-fi card but being a newbie am not sure what to do next! I drove about iwth it installed and was amazed at how many wireless networks there were but I wondered how to set it up for public hotspots, once again apologies if this is the wrong place for this, thanks, Jim.

What do you want to do with your WiFi card? Geo-map the hotspots?

I guess you wanted to know more...

Public access WiFi networks are called Hotspots. These are becoming increasingly available in pubs, fast food restaurants, airports etc. BT Hotspots, for example, are called Openzone and if you have a look at their site you'll see what's required. Other WiFi Hotspot providers are people like T Mobile but if you do a Goole serarch you'll find many more and can look for one in your geographic area.

When you get logged on you can surf the web and transact e-mail.

Unless you are lucky you'll need to pay for the priviledge, and it's not cheap.

You need to find a hotspot that lets you in. Either one that is open (either in a hotel or bar that offer free service) or, as mentioned , you can buy access for an hour or so. Once your PDA has acquired a valid IP address you can connect to your email server as usual.
