Hi,

I'm looking at getting at BT headset (Specifically Jabra BT250 FreeSpeak Bluetooth Headset) and was wondering if I could use it to accept the output from Navigon on my PDA (iPAQ 5550) and then switch over, should the phone ring.

Does anyone know? Is there any options I should look for to enable me to do that?

Stuart

Technically it does work when your Pocket PC supports both Audio Gateway and headset profiles. In reality I had problems with my iPAQ 6315 already when just forwarding the audio to the headset (obviously I was running BT GPS at the same time). But this can also be due to the low specs of the 6315 (168 MHz processor) and the 55xx may well pull it off.

I doubt whether it is possible to switch from the pda to the phone before the caller hangs up... You first have to disconnect the headset from the pda and then reconnect it to the phone and that takes time.

I use the Jabra 250 with a Nokia 6310i phone and when the two have lost contact and someone calls me I generally don't have time to reconnect before the caller gives up.

Regards
Dirk.

You don't need to switch from the PDA to the phone, because the PDA is the phone. It's more a question of "how many different Bluetooth services can the 6315 handle at the same time?"

I have tried it with my Solteras Halo headset and TomTom Navigator 2.24 - without much success. Part of the problem is that the headset goes to sleep whenever there is no sound. And waking up takes some time, so the first part of the TomTom announcements always gets lost. After a few times the audio gateway seems to crash completely and TomTom will stop saying anything (routing does continue though, which is more than what Mapopolis does).

So in summary I think the audio gateway protocol is not yet suitable to run together with the SPP.

Thanks for the replies... at least it would save me hours of endless messing to come to the same conclusion Laughing

For what it's worth - I found a workaround. What you need to do is "keep the line open" - play some of your mp3's in the background at low volume. This keeps the BT headset busy, and will allow you to hear the navigation commands (at a louder volume than the music). Has the nice additional benefit of some good music ;-)

mavis,

that program will not help. The problem is not to get the BT headset profile running, but to keep the Audio Gateway profile from timing out.
