Well, this is my first post here.

I've had v4 for about 1 years with little to no problems at all.

Upgraded to 5.0 and began having some issues:

1) Map accuracy for Houston,TX is inconsistent.

2)Several hang ups. I use it on an iPAQ with WM2003. I received an error of "lack or low on memory", something like that.(all the tasks in the background, except Copilot were closed)
Had to restart the PDA while driving, run Copilot, etc.(not driver safely at all)

3) Just made a trip to Austin,TX.
Got the Hotel's address, ZIP,etc.
When I was getting there, it took me to a different hotel. The REAL one was kinda 3 miles from there, on the other way of the freeway.

My question is: is ALK addressing customer's problems via a patches or something? I am not able to access their website, it's down 90% of the time.

Thank you.

PS: I use a GPS sleeve.
For my trip to Austin, I downloaded a 300 mile radius from Houston map.(120 MB) to a CF card on the sleeve.

Howdy, and welcome.

1) Houston is a particularly fast changing area. CoPilot maps may not be perfect, but they are the most up to date right now. As you observed the house number accuracy is somewhat lower than that of Mapopolis, for example. Remember, the CoPilot maps are extremely compressed (one CD for all of the US)

2) you may have too much stuff installed in the main memory of your device. Try moving some of it to the storage card. The more RAM you have free to run programs, the better for the performance and stability. I would also recommend a task manager like vBar or Wisbar, so you can really make sure there's nothing running in the background.

3) That's the classic dilemma. Vendor supplied POIs are outdated as soon as the CD gets pressed. Fortunately you can manage your own POIs . Hopefully in the future we will have a user maintained "open source" POI service that will be much more real-time than any of the (pretty expensive) commercial POI services

Hi and thanks for responding.

Regarding # 1, I agree that Houston is in an "eternal road work" status, it never ends.
But, there are some addresses that haven't changed for decades, and this are the ones I refer to. I usually send my GPS tracks to ALK, hope that helps them.

Regarding # 2, I don't have a lot of stuff in main memory, I do really close the apps.and always keep my memory clean from trash files.

I'm just reading on Space Detective Monitor (Sprite Software):

Total Main memory: 63 Mb
Program memory: used 9.6 Mb/Free: 18.5 Mb
Storage Memory:used 15.3 Mb/Free 19.6 Mb.

your memory situation sounds good to me. Mine's worse, yet I don't have the "out of memory" errors any more on program start. Someone recently mentioned there may be a memory leak issue - have you seen the error message when you start the program or after some time of using it?

This may then point to the memory leak that others are experiencing as well. As I understand it, ALK are aware of it and are working on a fix.

I do try to get the ppc as much free RAM as possilbe, CP will take 10-12 if given.

As for alk.com
I go there oh, bout daily and have never had an access problem. could it be our browser, or firewall?
