Hi all

I accidentally let the battery run down on my iPAQ 2210. I have reinstalled Sprite Software version 3.0.1 Build 1676, but it has obviously last all past back up history. I did backups to my laptop. Is their another way to restore without having this past history, or is it a case of re-installing everything one by one.

Thanks

Alan

I don't use the 'backup to PC' function - I use self-restoring backups to a storage card, which makes things very easy to restore, as you just run the .exe backup.

It may be easiest to copy the backup file to a memory card and restore from the memory card if you can't work out how to restore from the computer.

By the way, the latest version of Sprite Backup is 3.1.3 - and you're highly recommended to upgrade free to the latest version once you've got your system restored.

Once you have reinstalled Sprite Backup onto your iPAQ you should be able to run a full restore using a backup saved on your laptop. You can initiate it via the Sprite Backup PC Agent on the laptop.

Hello

Thanks David - I have upgraded to Sprite Backup 3.1.3. Also upgraded to Active Sync 3.7.1.

Thanks Kam - I was able to restore directly from my Laptop via the Sprite Backup agent on the laptop. - It worked a treat and all is OK again.

In future do you think it is better to backup from the Laptop, or from the iPAQ.

Cheers

Alan

I take a belt and braces approach myself. At fairly regular intervals, and definitely before installing anything, I start backups from the PC and store a number of them on the PC. That secures my data in case of a lost iPAQ or in the event of needing to restore a file to a point before the latest automatic data sync. I also have a cycle of 2 self-extracting backup files on an SD card in the iPAQ. This allows for the simplest and quickest of system restores should one be needed even when away from home.

Kam

Thanks for the help on this one.

How do I set up self extracting files on my SD card. I could see how usefull this would be away from home.

Regards

Alan

Alan,

1) Fire up Sprite Backup on the iPAQ.
2) Switch to Advanced Mode under Options.
3) Select Backup Tab/Options/Backup Options/General Backup Options/Create Self Restoring Backup Files.
4) Then select your Storage Card as the location for Backup Files.

Then away you go. You will end up with an .EXE file which if executed will restore its content to the iPAQ.

If you haven't yet explored Advanced Mode I suggest that you look at the various options such as the one under Backup File Management which allows you to limit the number of backup files stored (I use 2).

Thanks for your help with this one, it works a treat. Its use is mainly in a motorhome away from home, so to be able to restore whilst away is a good bonus.
