Hi,
Idea I have a suggestion for a GPS application that holds a database of the speed limits for each stretch of road, and advises when you are exceeding this limit. Idea

From discussions at the meeting yesterday (Great meeting guys!) I now realise the cost of licensing this from the mapping companies, but we now have a whole network of safety camera partnerships in the UK dedicated to making us drive within the limits. If their cause is really so altruistic, then surely they would willing provide data f.o.c. for their patch of the UK? Supreme Angel
(Of course, if they are really in it for the income, then they could also charge a kings ransom for the data!) Twisted Evil

I would appreciate your thoughts on this, anyone in a position to talk to the commercial software houses about it? Does anyone fancy writing code? Does anyone fancy writing to the home secretary/Assistant p.m.? Does anyone fancy the assistant p.m.?

Steve

How sad is this? replying to my own posting?

I forgot to mention that the reason behind this is because most speeding occurs because of a lapse of concentration rather than deliberate intent. Of course nowadays you can't explain this to a Gatso, and its a bit expensive explainiing it to a magistrate!

I seem to recall from my trials of various packages for work that Alturion 5 has a speed limit warning thing, but as it seemed to think any speed I did along a NSL-stretch of dual carriageway was worthy of a "speed limit exceeded" comment, I uninstalled it PDQ

From various conversations over the last few days, many people have seen the 'speed limit' settings in the add-ons for TT. (POI warner etc.)
However, this is a blanket limit for all locations, I am thinking about software which links speed limits to specific stretches of road.

Destinator 3 also had speed limits, but most weren't correct for the category of road. Trying to map every single road is worse than trying to map 8000 safety cameras.
