Displaying street names with Tom Tom 3

I originally used SmartST with my PDA which displayed street names of the map as you drove along.
I have since moved over to Tom Tom 3 and find it a much better piece of software but would love to see street names again on the map instead of them being empty.
Is there an option to turn them on or is that just how it is?

Incidentally... what makes Tom Tom 3 a much better piece of software?
