Anyone any ideas why my cable won't connect anymore.
3 pins have continuity but the power pin next to the orientation slot has no continuity.
I don't know if this matters.
Was working fine 3 weeks ago, now no good.
Have tried on COM 2 but no good.
Other devices on COM 1 and 2 are OK.
Any help appreciated.

Have you made any change to your PC/GPS or added any new software?
You have to configured your software/GPS again if you have made any change.

It is very unlikely that your cable stops working. Power pin is not needed.
It is likely that you have hardware/software com port conflict.
You should know which com port the cable is connected to (it should be com 1 or com 2, if you are trying both, it means you do not know which one is it).

If your software is configured to use the correct com port and it did not work, it is very likely that other software is occupying the com port thus preventing other software from using that com port.

Of course there is still the possibility that the cable is faulty. As you said the 3 pins have continuity so it should be OK.

It's probably either a configuration problem on the PC, or you have re-configured the eTrex at some point to go back to Garmin Protocol rather than exporting NMEA (which is required).
