Thinking about buying a TomTom Go, have only used Hertz Neverlost in the past but like the look of the Go. We have a driving holiday through France and Italy which is the main trigger for purchase. I understand that the machine comes with a 128M card that contains the UK roads (we are UK based). I can now buy the detail maps for other countries in the £120ish Roads of Europe 4CD set. Both France and Italy are listed on the TomTom website as being 256M in size. Can I buy a 512M card and load them both on the same card, and then I just have to switch them at the border?

Alternatively, if I were to buy just a 256M card, how much of a hassle is it to reload the relevant map? Clearly I'd need to take a laptop with CD-ROM (can't save it to a hard disk, no?), but how long does the reload take? We wouldn't do it on the move, but if we were in a hotel, does it take 15 minutes or 5 hours?

Thanks for listening - please help me understand how this works.

I have TT3 loaded on an Ipaq, but yes you can load then onto one card, and switch maps at the border. You could overwrite the maps, but I wouldn't think it would be worth taking your laptop on holiday for. Check out e-bay for some inexpensive memory cards. I would go for the faster variety. You can also preload and swap the cards, if you had two. You are looking at the 15 mins rather than hours to load - depending upon the setup.

If TTGo is any different, I am sure someone will put me right.

Regards,

Steve
