Hi lads,
New to all this and don't have much money to spend.
Would like to get myself a good navigation solution that includes software, hardware and a possible gps thing?
I am not a technophobe, but clueless to the whole scene and don't really have the time or patience to research every bundle out there.
I don't mind buying seperately if it'll save me a fair bit of cash.
What would you recommend? I will not be using voice directions due to hearing loss - will need quick and easy to see on-screen display for split second glances at moderate speed. Would also like it to correct itsself if I miss a turning.
Cheap as possible please lads
Thank you for your time. |

pocketpc (ipaq 2210 is very good)
sd or cf flash card (128 meg - good, 256 meg - better, 512 meg -best)
gps receiver - bluetooth (wireless, cf slot wired, cf sleeve and 1 other that goes through the bottom)
Software ( I have no clue which software to recommend yet)
I beleive a cf slot wired mouse type is going to be the cheaper and best quality.
Another cheap option is to buy a pda, then buy a garmin summit on ebay, and a car kit to power both of them and connect them for $60.
I'm new to this but hope this helps |

I agree with Eliga, a HP 2210 PDA, power/data cable combo and any of the Garmin Etrex GPS units.
Big advantage is if you want to use away from the car the Etrex is a standalone unit, so as well as being able to feed the PDA with position info for use with Tom Tom etc it can also be used on its own for walking etc thanks to its ability to store and display waypoints and routes. Other big advantage is you will get between 12 and 18 hours out of two AA batteries (depending on Etrex model), the Etrex is water proof to a metre so rain is no problem, and the Etrex will store where you have been as tracks so you can find your way back. |
