There's very little info on Mitac's website, but their picture shows a "charging" light so that implies it has an internal battery, but I didn't think the 510 had internal power? (there's no mention of battery life in your review but you compare it to the quest, battery life=portability).
Where do you buy euro maps for the 136 later if you buy it with North America?
Where can I buy it in Canada?

Both sell the Navman, neither sell the Mio. Tough call as I think the Navman interface is better but I think the Mio maps (Navteq vs. Teleatlas) might be better for Canada... |

Your best bet will be bids on eBay to get a used or a new iPAQ, a GPS receiver and purchase the software from, perhaps, iGuidance (Navteq). Costs could be a lot less (if thats an issue) than the Navman and is more versatile.
Correct me if I am wrong, Mios are for European or Asian markets. |

I haven't found ebay to be any bargin over any other e-retailer once you figure in shipping & taxes.
I've no real need for a pda so that's why I thought the Mio 136 or Navman 510 might be a better bet then their respective pdas. A stand alone unit would be simpler from both a support and packaging point of view as well (1 thing to carry and keep charged, no bluetooth sync issues etc..).
I've found Mio in canada and it does have north american maps, but I'm not convinced its as nice to use as the navman..

eBay charges too much and the seller has to increase the shipping and handling costs to cover eBay's 8% charges.
I have bought quite many new items ended up with total prices higher than e-retailers. Its only good for those used products that people owned them have no further use or the items are unwanted warehouse products.
PDAs has a lot of potential uses and could be upgraded with additions peripherals and accessories. |

Possibly, but none that I've convinced myself I'd need so why pay the premium over a dedicated nav unit. |

Although it's beginning to look like I'll have little choice but to buy a full pda if I want a portable autonav unit with battery life and memory....
I live in Canada so I'd buy the north american version, but I if I want the UK/EU maps for a subsiquent trips. Of the dedicated units (Mio 136, Navman 510 etc..) only Navman will sell me maps later without selling me a 2nd unit, and I'm not sure I want Teleatlas maps in Canada.
However if I spend the extra $100 for a Mio 168 or Garmin M5 I can buy addtional maps later... |
