Has anybody had one of these fitted or seen one and know whether all the bits are essential and which bits of the current mount you need to reuse?

What I'm particularly interested in is how does the new 'horseshoe' fit to the mounting bracket (either the supplied one in the kit or, I presume, the windshield mount that comes with the Go). Does it re-use part of the current assembly?

The new 'horseshoe' appears to have a cable for an external antenna connected. Do you have to use the external antenna supplied? I wouldn't really want to be bothered with that as I get an excellent signal as it stands.

Thanks,
Chris

Some time ago I made a point of asking TT Customer Services whether the external antenna would be a part of the hardwire kit. I was told it probably wouldn't but they couldn't be 100% sure until closer to release. I therefore went ahead and bought myself an external antenna.

Now I see the antenna is included, so not only have I wasted £40 odd I now have to spent another £140 to get the hardwire kit Evil or Very Mad

Does anyone know if the parts listed for the permanent kit are/will be available to purchase individually? I imagine I'm not the only person with an external antenna already.

Has anyone installed the permanent docking kit yet? All relevant sites state "for professional installation only", but I haven't yet found an installer whose done one (I live in London, but would be willing to travel for a reputable installer). I'd also be willing to give it a shot myself, as my car is pre-wired for hands-free systems, but I can't seem to find any technical specs (wiring diagrams, etc.) for the docking kit.

Has anyone had the kit installed, or done it themselves? I'd love to see any details on the process.

i have had a quick look at one and it does not look that hard (not tried to fit 1 tho ), think the main reason tomtom will say that is you buy it and sell all the cables a lot of customers will panic and send it back or do it wrong. With there advice you don’t hurt yourself installing their equipment and the less chance that an electrician will plug it in wrong.

if you have have standard ISO connectors for power and speakers, then the installation is pretty easy. It takes more time to hide all the wiring then connecting it. As difficult as installing an aftermarket radio.

But if you have modern cars with special factory-installed wiring, e.g. CANBUS systems (digital signals) then I think it's not an average DIY job, at least not as easy as an aftermarket radio.

The new ones for GO300/500/700 are not available yet, and I don't think the classic version is still available.

I know this doesnt help now, but we will be doing a review of the new PDK as soon as TomTom can get us one.

I already have an installer lined up ready: Ride-On in Southend www.ride-on-essex.com 01702 303030. They at least have seen the kit! If you give them a call tell them where you got the number from. Not only are they going to be installing the PDK but they are also creating a custom mouldling to professionally install all my GPS devices.

Needless to say a full article will be following in due course.

I had one fitted by Leicester Car Radio in April. Also needed some adaptor cables to convert the car wiring to accept the TTGo's connectors.

Have you been peeking? Do you have a crystal ball?

On Wednesday I had my PDK fitted professionally by a local Southend company called Ride-On who specialise in car stereo, and SatNav. I am just putting it through its paces at the moment, then I will do my write up. ETA about 1-2 weeks.
