There have been reports of compatibility issues with the SDIO GPS on some machines - and don't forget that you need somewhere to put your maps. If you have your maps on CompactFlash card, then an SDIO GPS is a possibility - but not one I'd recommend.

A replacement TomTom wired GPS shouldn't cost that much. If you want different hardware, I'd consider buying a Bluetooth GPS (assuming that you have a Bluetooth PDA).

Why would you not recommend a SDIO GPS?

I have a SDIO SD-501 and it's a very good GPS receiver. The only problem it has is that the SDIO connector to the Axim X50 is not robust enough to use for off-road cycling. Shocks disconnect the receiver.

If you don't intend to use the PDA/GPS combination in an environment where shock is a problem what is wrong with an SDIO GPS?
