Clip-on battery question

I have just got a Fortuna Clip-on (which works great) I have decided to mount it in my boot under the parcel shelf (using the supplied magnet)

I have tested in this location using just the battery in it and it works great.

I am going to buy a 5A inline fuse and put a cig lighter socket in the boot to power it from as I have seen advised here on the forums (will wire it to the switch for the boot light)

So my question is....

Do I leave the battery in? I have read about it not doing the battery any good, and the unit can get hot etc etc, It's going to be connected to the permanent live so I guess it wouldn't need the battery.

Any ideas folks??

Think it would be wise to ask Fortuna if you can use without battery in place and connected via car charger without switch off.
