Navman Memory?? POI Files

Hello and greetings from a Newbie.

Im hoping someone may be able to help in my efforts to install Gatso camera POI's to my Navman PIN300

On attempting to "save to device....." the csv file containing relevent info, I am confronted with error message stating "names and places exceeded 16MB limit" and fails to load.

The csv file is only 159kb in size.

Is this a problem with my Navman memory which I can resolve? I hope you can help!

I recall seeing this in the early days of V3. Have you updated your Navman desktop to SP1? If not, do this first. If you connect your PiN as well, that will update the PPC to SP1 as well. Also, can you post the first two lines of the errand .csv file here, please?

Thanks for the reply Tim.

I have downloaded and installed SP1 for the Navman. Unfortunately the memory error message continues to appear.

The first two lines of csv file read:
-2.11314 53.37012 "GATSO:221" ""
-2.10855 53.0786 "GATSO:222@30" ""

but the appear as:
40"@50.16441 -5.16076 "GATSO:1@40"
51.46979 -0.41176 "GATSO:1000"
in the POI editor

Any ideas?

Can you tell me what you used to read the file? The lines should have commas, like the one below.

-2.11314, 53.37012, "GATSO:221", ""
-2.10855, 53.0786, "GATSO:222@30", ""

If the problem persists, can I send you a file that I know works?

Hi Tim,

The .csv file is opened by default in Excel, therefore no commas just individual cells.

If I open file in Notepad then first three lines read:
-2.11314,53.37012," ""GATSO:221"""," """""
-2.10855,53.0786," ""GATSO:222@30"""," """""
-2.07134,53.36425," ""GATSO:223"""," """""

Opening in Excel is the problem! If you highlight the file and right-click on it, then select "Open with..." and choose Notepad.

Your problem is the double quotes around the Gatso names! You can rectify this in your existing file by doing a Replace "" with ". Please see if that works first. My adage is that I'd rather teach you to fish than give you a fish. Wink

You were quite correct and now it's worked!!
The fishing tuition did the trick!
All files now downloaded to Navman. Im off out now to put it to the test!!
Cant thank you enough.

Do you use your GPS on your bike? I have a Yamaha XJR1300.
Ive tried plugging in the earphones and putting Navman in jacket pocket. Not very successfull tho! Can you recommend a way of mounting it to bars etc?

Glad it's all working now. I do use my iPAQ on my 'bike; I just have it in my Baglux Map Pocket. I don't use the audio but occasionally forget to turn it off and get strange looks at junctions when I'm being told to "Turn left, then turn right"!

There are a couple of other bikers here who have successfully mounted their devices onto said bikes, though. Click here to see John Child's mount.

Thanks for all the help Tim.

The camera POI's now work fine and have been well tested in my area. Have set the distance for sound alert to 200m. Gives time to slow down!!

I'll have to get sorted and devise a mounting arrangement for my XJR. I find the voice prompts very ahndy on the bike. No need to take the eyes off what lays ahead!

Is there any way of using the .wav files in the downloaded zip to give audio warning of cameras? I see its possible with other devices, but is it with PiN300?

I believe that the 300 has the same structure as the PPC. If so, you can set up only one warning sound, and it will be the same sound for all Custom POIs for which you have set an audible warning.

I have changed mine from the default to one of a car alam.

On your PiN, navigate to \Program Files\Navman\SmartST PRO\Sound

In there you will find a file called cosmicl.wav. Rename it and put your own .wav file in there. You must call it cosmicl.wav and it will warn of any of your custom POIs that are set to give an audible warning.

Unless I am grossly mistaken (I hope not) you can do this directly from the SmartST desktop

I think it is Map > POI with entries in the form of degrees minutes seconds awith user defined name.

If there is a database of such it should take a great deal to revise the database to acceptable format that does not generate indigestion with Smart ST

Mind you, it may be a function and consequence of MY POI listing?

It seems we are allowed one folder - the MYPOI folder

The changing of .wav file to warn of cameras has worked just fine. I now have a VERY effective alarm bell warning at 200m before offending camera.

I wish I'd discovered all this a month ago. Would have saved me 3 points and £60!!

Sorry to all

It's a trick I do from time-to-time to make sure that there really is someone in the forum Twisted Evil

As far as I can tell POI's can be entered one at a time via MAP > POI on the SmartST V3 desktop.

The interface is: set co-ords the giv it a name (no more than 8 characters allowed)

This goes to a user *.csv file which you can name

In the separate POI editor (SmartST V3 desktop minimising while the POI editor is running) there is an option to download/update PDA

It appears that data in the *.csv on PC ends up in a no option Folder/Category called MY POI

It looks as if this is defaulted to active once data inputted (know wot I mean 'arry?)

But I guess I may be mistaken on some of that as reverse engineering is not allowed under my EULA

There does seem to be a bit (only a bit?) of encryption on the go

My concerns do extend to the Route Recorder (I don't think it does) but heck I ain't no beta tester for ********* all I seek is what I paid for Smile
