Hi All,

got my 4420 today and I was wondering if there is any easy way to convert TomTom POI's to CSV format so that we can use them with SmartST Pro V3?

Thanks
Paul

Yes, you use DumpOV2.exe , then import the ASC file into Excel (tab delimited) and then export from Excel into CSV format.

Alternatively you find a text editor that allows replacing of Tabs with commas.

Or, you could use this, from our very own Oldie.

Open as an .ov2 file, save as a .csv file. Use Notepad to open the resulting .csv file, strip out the top line and resave. Then load the final file onto your iPAQ using the Navman Desktop.

Alternatively you can check here to see if there are any that interest you.
If you don't see what you want just let us know what you would like.

Alternatively try POIConverter which is available from the download section to convert your own.

Thanks guys, loads of help...

Just a couple of questions, I'm doing the conversion to CSV and the long and lat seem correct, removing the header columns, but when imported i can't see the POI icons on the map... I have set the visibility to high and I can see all of the speed camera icons (also at high), but i can't see them...

Any idea's?

Check you have specified the correct path to the icon file in the POI Options window.
It may be defaulting to the camera icon.

Ok, I worked it out... the CSV files saved from Excel do not have "" surrounding the text, when these are missing it appears that this fails.

Mmmm lots of manual editing....

I think you can set this somewhere in Excel so that the quotes are included

Which is why the use of Notepad is specified!

Laughing Out Loud, wow take a chill pill, I just do things my own way... :-)

Anyway, I would recommend using export to AutoRoute Pushpin format and then use Word to find and replace ,"" with nothing and its the fastest way. Much faster than editing the files manually...

I am going to put the POI files up on an FTP site if anyone is interested, will update soon... I converted the following:

Woodlands
AA Walks in Berkshire
AA Walks in Surrey
Perhistoric Monuments
National Trust Sites

Cheers
Paul

I am chilled, believe me, but if you knew the number of emails, private messages and questions on this forum that I, among others, have replied to, most of which wouldn't have been necessary if the person asking the question had used Notepad instead of Excel, you might appreciate my repeating the statement here in big red letters.

Use Notepad to strip out the top row, not Excel.

You don't need to edit out the fourth column (, "") as Navman's POIEditor ignores it. However, I do edit that column out as well, also using the 'Find and Replace' function in Notepad, which is recommended over Word as it has no hidden formatting functions.

Noted, I can appreciate how annoying n00bs must be... hmmm... like me... anyway I'll make sure I follow instructions explicitly so as not to incure your "Red Wrath" again... :-)

Well, I have finished with the databases and thought I would share. I have converted the following but included the original files...

AA_walks_Berks
AA_walks_Surrey
Attractions_UK
Brochs
Lighthouses
London_Congestion_Zone_Entry_Points
National_Trust_Sites
nature_reserves
Prehistoric_Monuments
Roman_Sites
Woodlands
Zoo

Hope this of use to someone...

Cheers
