Antenna Extension (Garmin Quest)

Hi,
I have a Garmin Quest and I want to take it snowboarding so I can track my route and speed etc during the day. I'm obviously worried about falling on it and snapping the fold out antenna so this is what I was planning.
Place the quest in a tupperware box with some bubble wrap and extend the antenna to the top of my rucksack. Do you think this will work? What antenna should I buy (cheap and/or indestructible would be best)

Rather than trying to use a street navigation sat-nav system for this, why don't you purchase something that will do the job just right, like a Garmin ForeTrex that can be worn on the wrist, or perhaps an etrex that is rugged enough to withstand a fall and can be zipepd away in a pocket ?
