|
|
My folks. Got my new 510 from Santa and I have a quick question. I have applied the service pack for the 510 as advised but I am unsure what the relationship between the destop software and my 510's software/firmware. My desktop is now running V3.2.1.286 and my 510 is running v3.00.1008. In the software menu on my PC it gives my the option to update the software on my ICN. When I choose this option it tells me that the navman software is already installed and do I wish to reinstall/upgrade. At this point I have bailed out not knowing what it is about to do and being a little nervous of killing the 510 in the process.
Can someone help me here. I want to make sure my "package" i.e. desktop and incar unit are running the most up to date software possible but I dont want to fix something that aint broken.
What is the latest desktop software version and what is the latest Firmware version for the 510 and do I simply have faith and let the program "upgrade" my ICN.
Help !!!!!!! 8O |

You can be sure that if you've applied the SP, your Navman is running the latest software versions. Re-applying the SP will not hurt, though. _________________ Tim |

I should qualify this by adding that if you do try to update the iCN Software again, if you are asked to insert a CD then decline, as it will more than likely reinstall the original programme again. This will only mean that you have to run the update programme again. _________________ Tim |

Tim,
Many thanks. Still think that this detail is not ideal from Navman. I have also noted that thr audio warnings for POI's aren't exactly fantastic but on the whole I think the unit is a real winner.
Do you know if V3.00.1008 is the latest firmware for the 510.

I received the following from tech support because I wasn't sure how to verify either. If you post what your 510's About shows, then we can compare:
My question:
I installed iCN510 SP1. But how do I verify that it and the new
firmware were installed correctly? In the iCN About screen, it shows
iCN510 Version: v3.01.1008,
English: v3.0.1000,
Built on: 2004-11-22 12:38:48(B),
Core: T-core-v1_16_0039 2004/11/05-14:41:16.
Reply:
I believe it shows V3.00.1008, but based on the rest of the info, yes
the SP has been installed correctly.
Regards,

Hi Chris,
I don't own a 510 so can't tell you what the latest device software (it isn't firmware) for that model is. If you have your 510 connected to your PC and run the "Check for updates on the web" option, it will tell you if there are any updates available for any of the component parts of SmartST. Just to let you know that when I click 'About' I am told that I'm running Desktop V3.2.1.186.
As to the POI audio warnings, again if you have the unit connected to your PC, you should be able to 'Explore' the device using Windows Explorer (it shows up as a USB device, I think). On the PiN/PPC version the audio file for the POI warning is called cosmicl.wav and the one for the speed warning is called heartput.wav. You can rename these files to something else and then put in your own, renaming them to cosmicl and heartput respectively. I have a car alarm sound for when I'm approaching one of my custom POIs, for instance. If you're not frightened to experiment then you should be able to do something similar.
When I update the device software it does reset these files to the originals, though. _________________ Tim |

Chimera,
My unit shows exactly the same info so I think I can assume it is up to date.
Thanks to all of you that answered my query.

Tim,
My 510 can be browsed, with difficulty, but I cant find any sound files similar to you suggestions. Lets see if anyone else pitches in with some 510 advise as the Audio warning would be better if a little more serious.

Can you find the voice .dat files? The other sound files might be in the same place. _________________ Tim |

Reading previous comments about the Firmware/Software updates I have noticed that the Service Pack 1 update, does not update what I believe is the Manufacturing version information.
After upgrading to SP1 my iCN 510 continuos showing:
iCN510 Version: v3.00.0027,
English: v3.01.00003
Built on: 2004-09-02 12:44:12(B),
Core: T-core-v1_16_0029 2004/09/02-12:44:16.
(that is previous to the mentioned here.
My question is what corrections/updates does include the SP1.

You can double check the updated files on your desktop. Mine is the US version:
In C:\Program Files\Navman\Navman SmartST Desktop Version 3 for iCN500 Series\iCN510bin, look for the files with most up to date timestamp:
iCN510_setup_aus.exe 2,429 KB 9/2/2004
iCN510_setup_uk.exe 2,429 KB 9/2/2004
iCN510_setup_us.exe 2,395 KB 11/22/2004
and
version_aus.ini 1 KB 9/2/2004
version_uk.ini 1 KB 9/2/2004
version_us.ini 1 KB 11/22/2004
View of version_us.ini shows:
[VersionInfo]
Name = iCN 510
Brand = NAVMAN
ApplicationID = 335AAXXXXX
VersionID = 3.00.1008
BuildTime = 2004-11-22,12:38:48 |

Does anyone have the US file (iCN5xx_3_US20041027.exe)
I think this is the newest one.. Cant Download it off Navman. Site seems to be down. (using Patcher80.exe)
------------------
Using the program auto update feature - my Icn510 still gets
iCN510 Version: v3.00.0027,
English: v3.01.00003
Built on: 2004-09-02 12:44:12(B),
Core: T-core-v1_16_0029 2004/09/02-12:44:16.
------------------
I hope the self install will get me 3.00.1008 |

My conclusion regarding Product version/updates is:
1. Product shipped under US Version correspond to the built on: 2004-09-02 12:44:12(B),
2. The SP1 does not update the ICN Version
Mine still shows ICN510 Version: v3.00.0027,
English: v3.01.00003
Built on: 2004-09-02 12:44:12(B),
Core: T-core-v1_16_0029 2004/09/02-12:44:16.
Correct me if someone in USA has a newer version. I bought mine a couple of days ago from PCmall.
3. Updated files in my desktop are: (SP1 installed)
C:\Program Files\Navman\Navman SmartST Desktop Version 3 for iCN500 Series\iCN510bin:
iCN510_setup_aus.exe 2,429 KB 9/2/2004
iCN510_setup_uk.exe 2,429 KB 9/2/2004
iCN510_setup_us.exe 2,395 KB 11/22/2004
and
version_aus.ini 1 KB 9/2/2004
version_uk.ini 1 KB 9/2/2004
version_us.ini 1 KB 11/22/2004
View of version_us.ini shows:
[VersionInfo]
Name = iCN 510
Brand = NAVMAN
ApplicationID = 335AAXXXXX
VersionID = 3.00.1008
BuildTime = 2004-11-22,12:38:48
These are the same files and time stamp mentioned by Chimera in previous post.
Still curious about the fixes/enhancements that were included in SP1.
NAVMAN site apparently continues down. |

Got the update installed finally.
US version...
CN510 Version: v3.01.1008,
English: v3.0.1000,
Built on: 2004-11-22 12:38:48(B),
Core: T-core-v1_16_0039 2004/11/05-14:41:16.
Used the patch from the Navman site, the auto update program does not seem to udate to the newest patch in SmartST Desktop v3.0 for iCN500 Series i3_1_2_32.
Link to CN510 Version: v3.01.1008, (http://www.navmansupport.com/smartst_pro/SmartST_Pro/iCN5xx_3/20041027/iCN5xx_3_US20041027.exe)
Hope this can help! :P |

Now my iCN shows:

Core: T-core-v1_16_0039 2004/11/05-14:41:16.
In addition, I updated to the just released ActiveSync Ver 3.8.0 (Build 5004).
