Thinking i might do a bit more touring on the bike (motor) this year, subject to the vagaries of our weather does anyone have any thoughts on the switching between car/bike of the gps. My mouse is pretty much fixed in the car and would be a pain to take out, do i get another mouse for the bike or as i was thinking get a card receiver and then be totally mobile. Would there be a problem switching between receivers.

No problem swithcing between receivers. Best would be a serial receiver so you wouldn't have to change ANY settings (plus it's easier to watertight than a card receiver)

It really all depends how you plan on powering your equipment on the bike. Are you going to wire them into the bike or just run off the batteries (wont last that long). I use a Bluetooth GPS on my bike but that’s under short distance journeys.

If i go to a card type receiver will i have much hassle when i swap from one to the other ?

sorry what i meant was if you have i.e PDA, Serial cable based GPS receivers atm, you would need to find a way to power both the PDA and the receiver, ie through a car kit and mount it to your bike.

Like http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/john-childs.php

Or you could power the PDA and use a Bluetooth GPS in your tank bag or in your pocket.

Thanks Steven, coincidence that John and i share the same surname, he`s done a good job but has more room on his bike, mine`s a Vmax, i would like to just tuck it in the map pocket of the tank bag.

I use a Dell X30/Bluetooth. The mouse lives in a map pocket on the tank. I keep the PDA in my jacket's inside pocket.

Sony do some personal walkman earplugs which fit in the opening of the ear canal like noise reducing earplugs. They weren't cheap but the sound quality is excellent (for music) and when worn it is easy to get the helmet on without disturbing them. The TT supplied mouse will do about 5hrs on a full charge which under most circumstances will be long enough.
