I have had my PDA sat nav system for over a year and been very happy with it.

I was considering purchasing something like a Tom Tom Go for the wife who does a lot of driving but she wanted a speed camera detector instead.

She has ordered the latest road angel and it was only whilst looking at the review for this on this site that I realised that she could use this as a gps receiver.

Could I set up a PDA with navigation software using this.

If so what is the cheapest option, she does not like PDA's, but loves her laptop, so would not use the set up for anything other than navigation purposes

Regards

A "Din" lead is available from Blackspot at £9.95, but only with a Serial connector to your laptop. If The laptop doesn't have a serial port, you can buy a USB to serial lead for around the same price, then your only issue is navigational software. Most of the autoroute programs will cope OK with this setup, But the cheaper ones wont have voice instructions.

Davey,

Thanks for the response.

I think my original post was a bit misleading.

I was looking to use a PDA for the set up and mentioned her love of the laptop as a reason why she would not use the PDA for any other purpose than navigation.

No Probs, I bought my PDA only for SatNav - But guess what? its gradually replacing my laptop! I dont think it will replace it completely, but I do find myself having to make a decsision as to wether I need to carry my laptop, or rely on my PDA (a Navman Pin)

You can use PDA apps, but the app mustn't be checking for GPRMC output. The Road Angel ommits this. Applications like TomTom Navigator will work (and I'm running this successfully) but other apps like CoPilot Live 5 and Navman SmartST Pro won't work.

If you haven't seen our recent review, check out this review.

I've used the new Road Angel as a GPS reciever with my iPaq 4150 using the Holux cable, it works perfectly if you don't mind the cables hanging about
