I'm getting closer to getting something sorted with CamerAlert for Android and have been playing with some ideas for updating the icons in the app.

Personally I've never really been keen on using the photo-style images for the icons as speed cameras look different in different countries etc so I've tried to adjust these to be a bit more generic and, hopefully, clearer at a quick glance.

Opinions would be appreciated:

The simpler icons make more sense to me

Sort of related, newer Garmin models have a higher resolution and need the 44x44 icons sets

Problem would be that older Garmin's, although probably not many around now, still need the 22x22 set

Would it be possible to have 2 different downloads ?

Pretty sure we have 44x44 icons available to download. Might look into having them as a default and include a text file in the download with a link to the 22x22 for older devices.

Yes, 44x44 are available but when a new database is downloaded it's overwritten by the default 22x22

Maybe just offer the CSV files and allow the 22 or 44 to be downloaded as required at that would be a one off

Currently there is a 'no voice packs required' option

Same for icons ?

+1 for the new icons, they are simpler and easier (thus quicker) to understand and identify.

Look good. One suggestion would be to have pending only in grey scale and not have coloured traffic lights.

Looks good to me and I like the idea of pending in Gray scale.

Is it worth removing the single category of Redlight (non-speed camera) and placing all its cameras in the RedSpeed (redlight and speed camera) category or sub-category for the relevant speed limit if known?

I know it's just one category, but it would hopefully make things easier for submitters, verifiers, and MaFt, i.e., if there's a Redlight camera, submit it with a speed limit. You're warned about the Redlight and, if necessary, the speed. This would avoid confusion about whether it's a Redlight or RedSpeed camera.

I rarely look at any display, I rely on the verbal warnings

If it was to say RedSpeed or Redlight then a speed limit announcement just for RedSpeed

Looks good, might prefer the traditional speed camera symbol for the fixed cameras if that could be an option.

I will consider it as a future update. Basically, I was trying to get something more generic that can work globally and not just the UK. Plus the yellow icons merge too easily with Google's yellow road scheme in the maps...
