Hi everybody. Since TomTom has discontinued / disabled speed camera updates on my GO6000, I've been considering a new unit. (NOT a TomTom).
I see Amazon are doing a make called NavPal which seems to have good reviews and promises lifetime map and speed camera updates.
Only about £60 seems to good to be true.
Has anyone here had any experience with this make and does anyone know if the PocketGPS world data base POIs can be loaded onto it ?? just in case their one is rubbish (Like TomTom's).

It has been widely reported recently that a lot of tech Amazon stuff you've never heard of but has good reviews may be fake reviews.

Look for bad grammar, bad spelling, dates close together, almost identical wording, etc

I'm not putting too much faith in Amazon reviews that's why I'm asking on here. I'm really interested in whether the speed camera system is any good and if it can intelligently route round traffic issues.
From what I've seen so far it appears to be a generic Chinese brand which goes by many different names.

I did lookup at the 7" NavPal on Amazon and it said:

Currently unavailable and we don't know when it will be

Which usually means never, and a better description would be 'discontinued'.

Hi stirlingb,

If you need to see POIs on the map then get any Garmin PND with the suffix LMT-D (LM = free Lifetime Maps, T-D = Traffic - Digital). You can then use Kremmen's Garmin CSV to GPX Converter utility to load the PGPSW speed cameras.

I have tried a Garmin Camper but I don't like its routing nor did I like its traffic. This is a personal thing as others here like the Garmin.

Alternatively, if you can live without seeing the POIs on the screen, which is initially difficult but not impossible, then use a smartphone SatNav app together with PGPSW's CamerAlert app running in the background to alert you of speed cameras.

FYI, my own setup is an iPhone 6s Plus running TomTom GO Navigation with POIViewer app as my POI manager, and CamerAlert running in the background. You don't see the POIs on the screen but I can have all of my separate POI categories in POIViewer, select the POI that I need and POIViewer will send the POI as a destination to TomTom GO. I also have TomTom routing and traffic.

Regards,

Yes, but there is a noticeable (huge) price difference.
In my limited experience, most of the el cheapo Chinese satnavs run a ripped off copy of iGo in some flavour or another. All of which you can add user POIs and have proximity warnings.

Adding user POI depends on the system, where it is running. I mean if you can reach the file system.
There are also ways exist for POI conversion with open source applications. But to be sure that it will be successful, you need give it a try.

No third party has been able to install speed cameras on the latest TT's.

TomTom have that facility locked down
