|
|
Hi - Just purchased this to replace my older Nuvi 255 as it has route waypoints and is a good size to fit my vehicle but I can't get it to read my pockets traffic cameras database
I thought I could just take the sd card from the nuvi and all would work - but the drive 40 says it needs formatting.
I bought a new 8 gig sd card - formatted with FAT 32 and loaded a folder called Garmin with a subfolder called cameras.
Then disabled Garmin camera in settings.
It doesn't see the cameras - and as far as i can tell - it is not looking at the sd card. Seems there is something missing and I'm doing something wrong.
This all worked fine on the Nuvi 22#55
Any help would be welcome
Thanks |

Sub folder needs to be called POI, and what files have you placed there? I have no experience with a Drive but a nuvi would work. I guess it's possible the Drive series insists on POI files being in the POI folder on the Drive itself, have you tried that? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

The folder contains
pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.csv
pocketgps_uk_specs_20.csv
pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.wav
etc
I will rename the sub folder for a start
Thanks for quick reply |

Hi again - I have resolved it in a RAB way..
Tried loading it direct to the device - with the sd card in - withou - The Poi Loader went through all the motions then came up with'device not ready' at the end.
So I just used the Loader prog to make a gpi file to a folder on my computer - then copied the gpi file direct to the POI folder on Drive 40. That all works okay now and has created a custom POIS header in the menu somewhere.
Bit strange that I can't get it too see the sd card - then the POI loader error at the end - I may try the update version of POI laoder nest time.
Thanks for your help in pointing me in the direction of the gpi files - Id forgotten about that bit.. )
Now I will try and figure how to enable the sd card.......or what it's use is on this device.
I spoke to Garmin earlier today and the girl was quite helpful, but she didn't really understand about custom cameras and sd cards - or the names of folders etc.... |

I think SD cards are just there for the larger map files.
POILoader will put the GPI file in the correct place by default. I'm not surprised copy/paste camera files away from the default area has failed.
Sounds like you've found Garmin support as useful as me. They seem to have a pack of scripts and are not allowed to think.
By default, on the newer Nuvis, the map files are hidden. The rep I spoke to a few years ago had no idea why I couldn't see any map files, he reckoned I should reinstall Windows.
Bottom line - Garmin helpline agent didn't know about MTP v Mass Storage modes on his own devices _________________ Satnav:

Well - having trolled thru the Drive 40/50/60 manual - it says POIs can be loaded on the card but-
It says nothing about using POI Loader - instead it says Copy and paste files from your computer and don't use Garmin folder - it doesn't mention gpi or anything. It assumes that everyone will already know this.
Another poor instruction manual. I will test this out on the card and see if it reads the gpi okay
Will get back Thanks for comments/help etc |

Considering the small(ish) size of the GPI file, I'd just let POILoader do its thing and reduce the hassle factor. _________________ Satnav:
