The French government are planning to carry out an experiment using drones to detect dangerous driving.

They have also approved plans to introduce ten thousand fake speed cameras and five hundred real ones across France within the next three years.

This will quadruple "radar zones" in the country.

Commenting on the increase in road deaths in France in 2014 for the first time in 12 years - with indications that this year it will be even higher - the French Prime Minister, Manuel Valls said: "The roads of France should not be a cemetery".

I wonder if the increase in deaths might be down to them banning speed camera accuracy data?

Of course not Denis, because extrapolating that information from their data would be counter-productive ;) #sarcasm

Having driven thousands of miles in France, I find their driving habits worrying. Not so much on the Autoroutes, but more on National Routes where overtaking approaching a blind bend or summit seems to be acceptable. No amount of speed cameras is going to cure that.

I'm surprised. In general I find driving in France far less onerous than in the UK. Yes, there are a few idiots that I've come across but I find there are far more idiots in the UK. Having said that I do tend to stay away from the larger towns in France ...

I loved it driving in France - where I was, a traffic jam was three cars somewhere in sight!

I've recently had my first experience of driving in France, albeit for only 5 hours! Laughing

Bo Peep and I had a holiday in Jersey (Channel Islands) a few weeks ago and we took the car (we normally fly and hire a car). Unfortunately due to mechanical issues the ferry service back to England was going to be delayed by four days so we took a ferry to Saint Malo and drove 500 km (300 miles) to Calais to go back via the tunnel.

Once we got out of Saint Malo (which isn't large) the SatNav (TomTom Europe iOS app) kept us on the main (toll) roads so driving was relatively straight forward and we had no issues with tailgating or any other type of bad driving even though we kept under the speed limit especially in the 130 km/h zones.

Going back to the topic, I'm surprised that the french authorities are considering drones as they seem to place the emphasis on drivers as far as breathalyzer are concerned! Why not force every vehicle to have front and rear dashcams and make it compulsory to report bad driving to the police! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
