If you don't have a back up copy, reconnect your TT and check your computers "Trash". If needed, they may still be there and you should be able to restore them. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Andy, ref your comment about the mapsettings.cfg file often being reset by an update. I've done nothing to my TT since setting up the speed zone/ogg file associations, other than doing a subsequent random check to verify that the appropriate ogg files were still 'attached' to their relevant speed zones. However, today I updated Map Share/Quick Fix and now find I have lost my speed zone settings!!
Checking the cfg file with Explorer, sure enough the file is shown as being modified at the time of the update.
If one concludes that the cfg file has been 'modified' by the update, then simply substituting my backup cfg file means the update cfg data will be lost. What effect will this have on accessing and using the update?
I really cannot believe that this is happening. What logic has been applied which dumps the POI cfg settings but not the Favourites? |

Basically we're guessing.
Everything that we know about the MapSettings.cfg file has come about from the collected experiences of users (and tinkerers!) over the years.
We know that your Favourite locations are stored in it, and your POI warning settings, and your Home location and a few other things like your chosen map colour scheme (but not the scheme itself).
But TomTom have definitely used it for other stuff too, and I'm pretty sure they have tacked extra bits onto it over the years.
The cynical amongst us may even occasionally wonder whether TT deliberately mess up the POI warnings in order to discourage people from using third-party POIs at all, especially speed-camera ones..... _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Just to show the other side of the coin, I have always used the map folder system and have never had any problems. |
