When using the camera alert on the iPhone. Does the app use a big proportion of your data allowance. I know it takes a lot of battery power but what about the data. |

It depends how you use it really! The only time it uses data is when you update the database (about 0.5MB) or it displays map tiles.
The map tiles can be turned off in the settings using Show map: never. This will just show the upcoming cameras in a list. If you choose Show map: always then the map is always shown and it will always be using data (albeit not much). There is also the halfway house of Show map: near cam which shows the list (no data) until you approach a camera and the map then shows (using data).
Regardless of your settings for showing the map, if you have CamerAlert running in the background.

..... then it uses no data at all as long as it is in the background. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I'm on a Vodafone contract which includes mobile internet, but I've no idea how much my allowance is. I've never had and data charges.
I think the entry "WAP" on my bill is the one for data and the biggest recent entry I can see is when I drove Bristol to Glasgow and back in one day, over 700 miles, with CamerAlert on all the time, set to show map Near Cam. Total WAP for that day was 14.2MB. I don't think I used any other data such as internet browsing that day. It looks like more normal days are from 0.75 to 4.5MB. _________________ Dennis
