Since last month, every journey, I'm getting a map reminder pop up on my TomTom 1005. Usually after pressing something (like finishing a route for example).

Anyone know if this can be turned off?

It happens on the 1000 too. It looks like a very cynical attempt by TomTom to get you to upgrade your maps regularly (i.e. spend more money with them). I could cope with one reminder every few weeks but it happens much more regularly, often at very inopportune moments like having changed destination whilst in traffic.

This message changed from 'your maps are over 6 months old' to '7 months' last week! With no obvious way to disable this, for me it's another nail in their coffin.

Looks like we have exactly the same issue. TomTom support have just replied and suggested the following:

Quote:

In this case to resolve this issue we request you to perform a soft reset and factory reset on your device and check if you are able to resolve the issue with your device.

Please follow the below steps to perform a soft reset and factory reset on your device.

Click on the link below and follow the steps to perform a soft reset on your device:
www.tomtom.com/6965

Please follow the below steps to perform a factory reset on your device.

- On the TomTom GO LIVE 1005 menu tap Settings
- Tap on Reset Factory Settings. Please note: This will remove any personal settings such as Favourites
- Once the device displays the language selection screen, please hold down the power button until you hear the TomTom drum noise
- Now enter all your required preferences.

I'll give it a go and let you know if it works.

I doubt it will..... That looks like TomTom customer Support's standard 1st reply that they send everybody, in the hope it cures everything and you'll leave them alone.

But it's always worth a try.

Here's a list of what you WILL lose after a factory reset:

Factory Reset - What it does and doesn't do

Well I've tried the resets and since then, still had two reminders - no surprise! Not really driven enough to see if the number of reminders is less.

I've fed that back to TomTom and asked if the behaviour is intentional (which if so, then why they've wasted my time - although I guess we know the answer to that one too).

Well, I'm a bit phased by this reply from TomTom. After a few back and forth replies just to be really sure, this is what they've had to say:
Quote:
... unfortunately it seems that you will get the message on your device when you navigate.

It will prompt you when you navigate with your device and we request you to avoid it.

So that's it - so now as well have having to switch the thing on every time I start my car instead of it doing so automatically, I then have the pleasure of having to push another button to dismiss an annoying message about upgrading my maps because they're 7 months old - next month no doubt it will tell me they're 8 months, then 9 ...

OK, so there's a lot worse happening on our planet, but talk about being desperate to upsell. Next we'll have adverts for accessories, chargers, voices ... Evil or Very Mad

Are you sure they're not asking you to "avoid" navigating? Rolling Eyes you could always use it as a bookend instead Laughing
