Just started having a problem with my 760 where the directions are correct but my position on the screen is way behind where I actually am,however it is correct till I input a destination, i.e. "Go Home" then it starts to lag behind again.Press stop and then its back in the correct position.
Spoken to Garmin today and was advised to re install the software but to no avail. He also suggested updating the mapping but I don,t want to pay for a map upgrade to find out it hasn't cured the problem.
For 78 they will replace the unit for a refurb unit but if the maps are out of date on that unit then I may as well buy a new one.
Wondered if anyone knows whether its a common problem.
Thanks

Never heard of it before as far as I remember and I'm a member of various Garmin forums. If a hard reset hasn't cured it then I suspect it's time for a new unit Crying or Very sad

Thanks for your reply.
The reset was using web updater and downloading the last software update which is what the guy at Garmin suggested.
Not aware of any other way to do it.

Downgrading to an earlier firmware tends to cause a fairly major reset. If you've got V4.9 loaded, that's a good thing to do anyway IMO (Having had several 760s and a 710 that hang with monotous regularity with it loaded).

Other 'resets' include "clearing the Trip log" and going into Diagnostics mode and then pressing Exit. (The Diagnostics mode in question, being reached by holding a finger on the battery icon for 7 seconds).

There's also the "Power on with finger held in bottom-right of screen" reset. Say yes to erase all user data.

(Obviously a backup of Favourites, Custom POIs, Tourguides etc is a good idea. Also, it's as well to know your 25digit map unlock code (available from Mygarmin.com) - as sometimes you have to manually construct a GMAPPROM.UNL. I don't know why Garmin delete this file ... usually its information is cached elsewhere, but a 'proper' reset can sometimes require it..)

(Earlier firmware is at: http://gawisp.com/perry/nuvi/ - my favourite being 4.6. Don't downgrade to less than 4.0 - it destroys the bluetooth functionality

Have just done the diagnostics and pressed exit so will try it on the road tomorrow.
Don,t really know how to get back to vers. 4.6 but will persevere with it.
It doesn,t give me the option, only to reinstall last update.
Thanks for your help and will post tomorrow to let you know if the problem is still there.
Is the hanging a common problem with this model ?

Where is the unit mounted and do you have one of these athermic (or whatever they're called) windscreens that can hinder signals?

Does sound like signal lag to me maybe a cause

No just a standard windscreen and the unit has always been used with one of those Garmin dashboard mats.
Never been a problem up till last week.
Thanks

Just thought I'd ask as I've known some lower down and obscure locations cause problems Smile

I have done run of over 100 miles, some urban roads and some motorway.
The display stays correct for about forty miles till I input a route, i.e. go home then it hangs again. Stop the route and ok again.
