Hi all,

just purchased a 2050/1005 unit and am having problems with Bitdefender total security 2011 firewall and my tomtom (what a stupid way of doing things now!!!!!). The tomtom unit, whilst firewall is active, will not connect properly. The my tomtom can detect a 1005 unit but it will not fully connect. Disable the firewall and not a problem. I think I have given the correct permissions in Bitdefender for it to connect, but obviously missing something as will only fully connect when firewall is off. Any solutions????

Not necessarily stupid, TomTom had some very good reasons for doing it this way (not least to get rid of the many problems we had with "Home")
But I'd be the first to agree the new "MyTomTom" system isn't without its own problems!.

So far, I'm afraid I've drawn a blank on your Firewall issue. I've not found anything helpful on TT's support pages or the forums.

Some also seem to have issues with Kapersky AV in preventing their 10.X models from connecting properly.

I'll try and remember to dig out some info tonight, as I got Bitdefender to work just fine, after some help from them directly.

It does work, and will work without issues, as mione does, just needs some exceptions set I seem to remember.

More later.

Bloater,

I would like to see what you have, I have received one reply from bitdefender but basically what they suggested I have already done, still no luck without turning off the fire wall.

This is the link they sent through for me to follow.

http://kb.bitdefender.com/site/KnowledgeBase/article/718/

further investigation though, I had actually only just purchased the software when the next release came out. If I remember correctly it was a free upgrade for licensed users, and when I installed this, no issues at all, nothing needed changing.

HTH

Lol......since posting above, I have received another email from bitdefender, which indicates I too am entitled to a free upgrade to 2012. Presently downloading and hopefully, like yours Gary, no probs from here. Will advise.

Can you give any details of what the minor tweak involved?

It will help anyone who finds this topic in the future.

Not sure I had to make any tweaks, just plugged it in and it worked.

Yes my version is 2012 as well.

Got there in the end.

As suggested by bitdefender support;

When you 2050/1005 is connected to you PC/laptop, 2012 Bitdefender firewall will recognize it as a local connection. In the firewall section, make sure the network type is set as "Home/Office". When initially connected, the firewall set the tomtom local connection as a public network.
