I'm looking to move from TomTom to Garmin and have the 1390T and 2360T in mind.

Both have TMC traffic. So when planning the routes will take into account current traffic flow in the route calculation.

As they both do this, is there really a benefit of paying more for the 2360T which has NuRoute TrafficTrends?

+ve Traffic Trends "may?" provide better route planning over the TMC - is this true?
-ve I have read that TrafficTrends is very slow on the route calculation - is this still the case?

If traffictrends doesn't add much, the only benefit of the more expensive 2360T is the Voice Control of the GPS.

Keen to get the latest view on traffictrends vs TMC.

Are you asking if TomTom's HD Traffic is better / equal / worse than Garmins Traffic Trends?

TrafficTrends is historical data for estimating peak time congestion on road, and route around

Similar to TomToms HD Traffic except HD has more history and more active users, so more accurate - at least as it stands today

On the new TomTom 1000 range route calculation with HD traffic on remains exceptionally fast - with the Garmin is is much slower - although again this will probably change as they improve their algorithms as are new to the live traffic / traffic data software implementation

thanks for the reply but my question was really about traffic trends vs tmc.

i.e. if you have tmc then the gps knows yje current congestion on roads - therefore this is more accurate than using historical information from traffictrends. i.e. what is the point of traffictrends when tmc data is giving the current road conhestion infomationto calculate the route.

i was thinking having tmc makes traffictrends a redundant feature?

I would disagree since they ar completely different and complementary features

Tmc highlights actual realtime incidents or major importance and on major routes

Traffic trends knows all the roads and typical (not actual) traffic conditions at a point in time on a particular day of the week

Traffic trends aim is to get you on a route that is typically free flowing

Tmc (on the limited roads it covers and where you get signal) will help divert around major incidents and accidents and roadorks - less so of the daily commute slowdown that adds 30 mins to a journey overall without any specific incident!

Best with both!

perfect explanation.

as you say trends helps plan the route and then tmc then helps add latest traffic incidents.

i think you have helped me decide on the 2360 rather than the 1390

thank you

This discussion has been a help to me (I'm considering jumping ship from TT to Garmin) can I just ask if I'm correct to think that Traffic Trends is the Garmin equivalent of TT's IQ routes then.?

Thanks

Yes - but Garmin are playing catch-up with TomTom is road speed data and live traffic data

Obviously we would expect them to get even at some point soon as far as accuracy goes, but its not yet, in my experience
