@lonesome: I had a look through the crash logs. Nothing really extraordinary, except for the fact that you have about 35 programs running (or in suspended mode, refusing to let go). The holdups that you experience are caused by the operating system trying desperately to jettison a program to recover memory. If the applications do not behave well and refuse to quit then you'll get these issues.
Are you aware that you can close programs via the double click on the Home button? _________________ Lutz

Thanks for comments.
I am aware of how to close apps by double clicking the home button. I always close GPS apps when finished to conserve battery. I wasn't aware that it was necessary to keep closing everything I have opened in this way for CamerAlert to work. I will keep the bottom tray clear and try again. I will let you know how it goes. |

I have the same problem as lonesome. I am using a TomTom car kit.
It seems that TomTom and CameraAlert are fightling over the use of the GPS. TomTom greys out for a couple of seconds then comes back and generally gets lost, whilst CameraAlert sometimes warns and sometimes misses a warning. Either App run on their own work perfectly. Everything is cleared out of memory apart from these two Apps.
Config is:
CameraAlert version 1.2 (60-100922)
TomTom version 1.5 (App version 8.300 (585805))
iPone 3GS
Software version 4.1
It is so nearly the perfect solution!! ....... |

Well ordinarily you wouldn't so long as apps were multi-tasking aware and behaved properly, releasing memory when suspended.
But many have yet to be updated to behave properly when running on OS4.0. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I have a test setup with 3GS and it behaves properly with TT 1.5.
Can I ask what charger you use? _________________ Darren Griffin |

sorry for the delay since my last post.
I have done approx 1000 miles since my last post but stopped using Cameralert 300 miles ago.
Keeping the memory clear on the phone did help reduce the number of instances that CamerAlert closed behind Tomtom but each day I found that it had closed at least twice. This of course means that I had to regularly check that it was still open. Not good. I also had it freeze on one occassion and have had it announce camera positions late and then miss the next one.
The reason I have stopped using it now is that it was, for whatever reason, causing grey screens on Tomtom with loss of direction very regularly and at inconvenient times resulting in one occassion taking completly the wrong direction. When I stopped and closed CamerAlert Tomtom resumed and worked without any issues as it has done ever since.
I will use CamerAlert again when I get another stand alone Tomtom. It is a brilliant application and I recommend it for those people that can use it.
Thank you for your help and I do not need a reply as I am not looking to spend any more of my time on this.
I will continue to peruse the forums incase... |

TomTom: 1.5
CameraAlert: 1.2
iPhone 4
I'm having problems with Camera Alert working in the background on an iPhone 4. Nothing else loaded and also tried after a reboot.
TomTom greys out a lot, and camera alert never notifies me of cameras. When I switch back to Camera Alert the top right icons quickly changes from Red to Green.
Running Camera Alert on its own works perfectly and does notify me of cameras.
No idea where to check for logs :D |
