There's only one guy who's in charge of sorting out the POI submissions, who does it on a voluntary basis.

I believe he personally checks all the POI submissions before he adds them too!

Thanks for the info ...

That checking will take a while - it took me many hours to compile the data!

Hi Chris, it took about six weeks for a large file I sent to be added to the POI`s.

I'm not sure why I bothered to collate and submit the jet wash POI's ...

Surely it can't take this long to publish (and an acknowledgment would have been appreciated too). Question

The main reason that POI submissions take so long to appear is that they do not conform to our required format. Our guidelines, on the POI submission page, are as follows

Submit a POI file
Email any new POI files to POIs@pocketgpsworld.com suggesting names for the Category and Subcategory to be used. Remember that all submitted files must be free of any copyright restrictions. Text files in the following format are preferred

longitude,latitude,"Title","Details"

where both the longitude and latitude values are in decimal degrees. For example -0.78707,51.23793,"Heath End","97 Farnborough Road, Farnham, Surrey GU9 9AL 01252 123456"

Your files do not conform to this and therefore they will take a long time to put into the correct format.

I am sorry but I do not acknowledge POI submissions as they are sent to Pocket GPS World. You should have received an automatic acknowledgement after the submission.

Here are a few records from your submissions

1: Murco Jetwash - no names, latitude before longitude
53.64259,-2.100565
50.97179,-0.019742

2: Sainsburys Jetwash - a spurious field and telephone number error
-1.49129,53.3452,y,Archer Road,4.41142E+11
-1.13565,52.99952,y,Arnold,4.4116E+11

3: Tesco Jetwash - a spurious field and full stops instead of commas
-3.44817,51.71611,Aberdare,y,Depot Rd. Aberdare. CF44 8DL [24h+P+C]
-1.30973,51.66735,Abingdon Extra,y,Marcham Rd. Abingdon. OX14 1TU . [24h+P+Med+C]

4: Total Jetwash - a spurious field and incorrect telephone numbers
-1.2771,52.07871,3 Bs SS,4.41E+11,y
-3.42189,51.70714,Aberdare SS,4.42E+11,y

Correctly formatted new subcategory submissions should appear quickly. Additions to existing subcategories are more difficult as they have to be compared to existing entries to avoid duplication. This may seem a trivial process that can be automated but believe me it is not - and I do have many years experience of doing it. Correcting these format errors all take extra time.

Most of the above errors are correctable so all but Murco Jetwash should appear some time. Sorry.

Richard
