I accepted the offer of 18 months for the price of 12, but it all went wrong when the map had downloaded.

No favourites; no home; lots of pop-up tips; but, most importantly, no spoken warnings of speed cameras.

I remember that it took ages to allocate a spoken warning to each of the (aren't there about 70 in UK and France?) speed camera types.

What on earth are TomTom up to? Don't they care about their users?

As the map download was in progress, I realised, of course, that I had forgotten to do a back up !

I do have an older back-up, though, which might have my favourites and spoken warnings, so please can someone tell me which file to copy onto my BRAND NEW TomTom?

MTIA

This often happens with a new map, the file you need is "MapSettings.cfg" and it will be in the old map folder, you might find the device won't read the old file though with the new map - This is why Favourites are a waste of time and you should consider switching to using a custom POI file instead as its a more robust file structure that doesn't get ruined with each update! - Mike

Thanks for the tip. You were quite right; the new map could not read the old file, so I will have to learn all over again how to set everything up. And also how to set up the POIs, as you mention. I am sure the instructions are in the forum somewhere, but I don't intend to do it immediately.

Oh, dear, why was there no warning that such a disaster could happen?

Thanks again for your help.

Philip

Philip, if you go to the Speed Camera downloads page and scroll down to the compatibility table to the right of the TomTom devices are a number of links to the installation/ set-up guides - Mike

Found it. It all looks very familiar and will give me the opportunity to change the distances for the faster speed warnings that were too short before.

I " SO FAR" do not have a problem with this, all I do is "Operate My Go" in tomtomhome go to my favourites, add or edit a favourite and all works ok.

At least you will have the favourites up to the latest back up.
