|

Last week I bought a new XL Live to replace my aging 520 - a product that was already registered on my TomTom account. The XL came with the offer of a £10 voucher when the product was registered. Went to my account, logged in and tried to enter the 10 digit product code (two groups of 5 letters). Wouldn't let me, so I deleted the details of the 520 and tried again. Still no luck. Gave up and emailed TomTom support. Received a reply this morning telling me I would need to set up a new account with a different email address! Is this really the case - can't TomTom handle more than one product code per account, or did I miss something? And why won't registration work when I delete the details of the 520? |

Yes this is the case but don't worry too much as the e-mail address you use can be made up, for example AlanH_New_XL_Live@broadband.co.uk will be quite acceptable to the device the TT Home software as well as their stupid server!
The account doesn't have to work, consider it as a user name that has to be in the format of an e-mail address rather than an e-mail address that actually works.
With a Live device you really need to have something that is unique, re-using an old e-mail address that was previously associated with a different TomTom device will only cause issues - Mike |

Hi Mike and thanks for the quick response. Presumably the new mail address would have to be one that works otherwise TomTom can't send me the voucher code. Presumably my current email address will still allow me to receive product updates and special offers? |

If the voucher is for use against the Live services then your fictional e-mail address won't matter one little bit as its applied at their end on the server against the account allocated to your new toy.
If the voucher is to be reclaimed against hardware etc then you are correct in requiring a functional e-mail, but the voucher barely covers the postage cost so its not worth the hastle - Mike |

OK thanks - I'll register with an old Hotmail address I have and use the voucher against Live services once my 3 month trial runs out. |

What sort of issues, because I was offered the choice but only have one, so had to use the same e-mail address?
Now you've got me worried |

I forgot to mention that after trying to register my new XL Live, and giving up, I went into TomTom Services and then My Services. The XL asked for my account login and I logged in using my existing account details. This seems to have worked as I can view details of my Live 3 month trial, and the TomTom Services page has my correct email address as the username. |

After buying a 550 I registered with a different email account to buy a fixed active mount - £10 discount applied & £6.95 postage TomTom could've taught Dick Turpin a few things |
