Nuvi GPX files have wrong date

I have a nuvi 5000 and I want to make more use of the track log file.
When I download the gpx file into Mapsource I notice that all the tracks are dated months ago even though I use the unit regularly. When I look at the gpx files in the Garmin/GPX directory the Current and TEmp files are both dated in April 2009 even though I use the unit regularly. I have even deleted the trip log data from Tools?my Data but this has no effect on the date.
What is going on and how can I get an accurate date and time for recent tracks that are saved?

I have checked each track segment and individual points within each segment are timestamped with the same date as the segment.
The current gpx file is dated 24/04/09 whilst the latest track segment is dated 15/04/09. Having looked at the latest segment I would say however that it is the last drive I recorded the other day i.e 18/10/09
All very confusing!
