I recently bought an Aldi/Medion SatNav bundle (great bargain ) and want to install it in my car. I've done some tests and find that if I place the purple dome behind my tax disc holder low down on the windscreen (dome facing me) it works fine, and doesn't look too "obvious" to what it is looking in, and is not visible from the outside :D . After hiding all the wiring behind the dash i reckon i've done a pretty good job!. What I need to know is...Is it ok to leave the purple dome in the car 24 hours a day. Its just that it gets really hot in the car and sometimes its in direct sunlight for ages. Could this "fry" the GPS sensor or do any other damage? Thanks in advance...Tony.

PS..of course i take the PDA and bracket out when the car is unattended!!! :D

I too have the Medion package and the GPS dome is fixed perminantly at the front edge of the dashboard by the windscreen. It has been there since the ALDI deal and so far has not appeared to suffer from the sun and as you say it gets really hot. :D

hi

sorry about the previous post just couldnt resist it.

Tony, i believe the gps mouse is a Royaltek Saphire. My wife uses the same. its installed on the left side of the dash under Tax disk and it does get very hot sometimes, but this does not appear to adversley effect it.

Removing these wired mice every night is a pain in the butt so it gets covered with a window leather (it looks quite 'normal')

i hope this helps

regards

The Pilgrim

I don't see why that should be a problem. On most Factory installed GPS systems, the "mouse" is placed on the roof of the car.

Hi guys. I too have this bundle. I leave the mouse in the corner of the windscreen next to the drivers widscreen pillar. Never bothered me until the other week someone advised me that the GPS Mouse does suffer from heat. I thought mine hasn't so carried on as normal. Yesterday though my car was parked in direct sun and when I moved off I found the system was off my route by what seemed miles. It wasn't even on the same roads as me. So I turned on my aircon cooled it down and rebooted the PPC. After that it was fine. The question is "was it too hot? or was it just a one off bug?" Other than that I have had no problems. Happy
