While not a bad camera position as such, in Harlow, Essex, I have noticed, after a few times but fortunately without getting 'done', a number of speed limit SIGNS which are placed right on the extry/exit junction at roundabouts, with few (small and not very visible) repeaters afterwards before the cameras. The stretch from the M11 roundabout towards the town on the A414 is one.
As you are concentrating more on roundabout traffic at road level, it can be extremely easy to miss the signs which are obviously higher up.
Ideally of course we all ought to observe all things at all times, but can anyone suggest why speed limit signs are not always in less cluttered positions? _________________ David

The new cameras on the Dartford bridge on the M25 must take the cake. 50 mph is purely aspirational unless you travel at some godforsaken hour. The matris usually announces anthing up to 30 minutes to travel the 7 miles from it to Junction 1b!!!!

As an ex Traffic Officer of 20+ years I came across Mobile Camera 30575 on the A6 at Penrith and was amazed!
Having left all houses etc behind, this 30mph camera was sited in a layby on the left hand side ot the carriageway about 150 metres from national speed limit signs. The cameras in the rear of the van aim at you therefore It reports drivers leaving the built up area and entering the de- resticted speed limit not the other way about A clear case of cash over safety!

There is always traffic backed up at this location due to the roundabout and Level crossing g ates closing for the trains. I rarely have been able to drive past this due to traffic being backed up.
This camera was positioned hidden behind the road directions sign at the end of Paula Radcliffe Way, which is the new Clapham by-pass in Bedford. However this was during the time when all cameras were supposed to be positioned where there had been serious traffic accidents thereby creating an accident blackspot. THE CAMERA WAS PLACED IN POSITION BEFORE THE ROAD HAD EVEN BEEN OPENED, how can that be a blackspot??

I second this one. Every time I go to Liverpool (not often) I swear that next time, I'll look more closely for that speed limit sign, because every time I've been, it's only the PGPSW advance warning which tells me and I have never yet seen the damned speed limit sign. I always remember there's a stupid speed limit somewhere there, but I'd love to see the sign, just to satisfy my curiosity. Speed limit reduces LONG BEFORE it's necessary, there's a hill and a curve before there's any end to the motorway edge fencing, barrier or whatever. GRRR. _________________ Dennis
Well I'm always surprised that I see these two cameras still in position every time I go to visit my parents. They have been there for years now and located between J12 of the M5 and Gailey Island heading in the Telford direction.
They are no more than 80m apart and it must be an incredible waste of money to site these so close together, and quite comical to. The only thing I can imagine is someone thinking let’s do this and catch all those that speed up after passing a camera and positioning the second so close!
Would be interesting to see if these two actually catch many people.

This camera is positioned at the bottom of a long sweeping downhill dual carriage-way flyover, with a slip road at the bottom coming in from your left. The van is parked just around the bend 200 yards before the road becomes 70mph from 40mph. Hence, three lanes of traffic feed into two with the Camera just visible as you start to hit the downhill section. Traffic on the two lane section are looking to see whether there is a Camera there or not and those on the slip road are simply trying to filter in, creating a safety hazzard
User comment “If you ran a competion to design a road for the perfect speed trap, you could not do better than this. This road has had several accidents - on the other side going east!”
ACCEPTED Portsmouth, the bottom of the Eastern Road heading in ( TRUVELO:51456@40 ).
This camera is positioned at the start of the single lane section after everybody is squashed from dual carriageway hence they're not moving.

ACCEPTED Portsmouth Dual carriageway leading onto the M275
This camera is positioned at the start of a motorway, so everyone on the dual carriageway (leading into the M275) starts hitting the brakes when they see it, causing a 'domino effect' of traffic problems instead of what should be the beginning of a nice smooth acceleration to Motorway speed

REASON FOR REJECTION:
DennisN kindly double-checked this location and they have since altered the signing and now have countdown advance warning of the 50mph limit (the three-two-one bars).
