I think it is time for tomtom to get their act sorted out i cant afford to be without my tomtom as i use it for work every day.

if watchdog are still looking at this forum please please bring tomtom to task over this.

The update on my 730 went flawlessly and afterward my TT works (for the most part) but the glitches I have experienced are:

1) The phonebook no longer contains names but only long strings of numbers with a few letters mixed in. This of course, makes the phonebook completely useless.

2) The sound via FM or bluetooth often disconnects and requires a reboot to get sound again.

3) Previously, I could have both my Motorolla K1M phone and Plantronics earpiece connected via bluetooth but now when listening to instructions via FM if the phone is opened then I lose sound on the 730 until I reboot.

4) Battery level no longer shows full after recharging... maybe 90% but never 100%.

5) The overall sound is reduced but it no longer distorts at higher volumes and blends better with the Bluetooth output so for me the change is good but the problems with sound seems to be that sound output is no longer stable and is easily shutoff requiring turning off and on or rebooting.

I can't help but wonder if the TT software writers tried the new update out of the lab because in the real world its pretty glitchy as many have experienced.

Just as a side annoyance, since making adjustments to the sound output is so necessary it would have been nice to see it show up several screens sooner than it does as it takes upwards of 14 taps from start to finish to set sound output selection. I mean, just make the allowance to add it to the quick menu... how hard is that.

The additional icons in Browse map view are nice but what about something more useful like navigation to your destination on the correct side of the road for parking or sorting of multiple destinations... now that would really be useful I think. Of course they would need new software development team because the current team would only turn our units to bricks.

No-one said you MUST update your device.. it's your choice!
I'm afraid I can't imagine Watchdog will be very interested.

But then I'm not having any of these problems... 100% volume is still very loud on my 940.

Try downloading th phonebook again? One of the changes in this version is "improvement to the import of phone books"

If I enter a road and house number as a destination, it usually shows me the correct side of the road. Don't you get that?

I tried deleting and reloading my phonebook entries multiple times but with the same results.

Yes to your second point, but that's not as good as being routed there without the extra effort to figure out when to ignore the TT route and make the different turns to put yourself on the correct side for parking. Of course, what you suggest is the best current work around but I would like to not have to work around that weakness (as I perceive it) in the routing. Mind you, I'm writing from Canada so I have no experience with U.K. or European parking, I'm just assuming that sometimes parking on one side of the road and sometimes parking is on the other side of the road... that is, as unstandardized as it is in Canada.

As a side note to you, if it wasn't for your excellent description of the new icons in Browse map view I don't think I would have yet figured out their exact meaning... thanks again!

Oh I see! You mean you want it to actually adjust the route so you approach from the right direction to be able to park without crossing the road? I thought you just wanted it to show which side of the road the address was on.

I'd love to say "Wow, you yanks..." but I think that's not going to endear me to a Canadian is it? Wink
In the UK our roads must be much smaller and it really doesn't make much difference which side of it we park on.
Finding ANY parking space is a bonus!

No problem, glad to help. I've been playing with those new flags for quite while so had got the hang of them.

And don't forget the new feature of being able to actually add a roundabout to the map data now. A brand new feature for v8.350! To remove a roundabout is still a 'report only' function, for now!

Added a few myself yesterday a useful feature although it does not seem to work in all cases.
Tried to add a roundabout yesterday on the A437 Harlington High Street at its junction with Sipson Lane map location 51 29.270 N 0 26.152 W and you get the message "Thank you this error will be reported to tomtom but the crossing cannot be corrected for your map version.

Has anyone else experienced this my tomtom is as per my sig below.

One other thing I have noticed since upgrade is the home symbol is always on the map, I did change the symbol to an alternative some time ago via home but I cannot find any way to turn it off apart from that update when smoothly.

Yes to both issues. Some roundabouts I have corrected don't seem to be able to be input into the map data, so a report of the location is sent off. The majority of roundabouts however are able to be added to the map data.

And the Home symbol, I noticed this a few days ago when I was testing this latest release. I don't like not being able to turn it off. But at the moment, there is no option to turn the home symbol off.

How do you recommend I report the utter mess they have made of mapping the fairly new roundabout on the A34 at 52.394569, -1.814708 ?

I downloaded the 8.35 update when it first came out and successfully applied it to my 740. I can't say I've noticed any problems yet.

Funnily enough, I got the problems with satellite fix times with the last version of firmware (8.302??) and it now appears to be fixed with 8.35. They have also fixed a minor problem so that the TomTom traffic menu page can now be accessed using the remote.

I am also annoyed that you can no longer leave the house number field blank in the postcode search - that was a very useful feature.

I have seen the following: the auto-reboot failed after installation and the device required a couple of pokes up its rear end to get it to behave, which is now does. I have notice that the road planning now initially takes place with a blank screen and a message displayed and then once sorted it shows a route map but most strange is that this device had both Great Britain and NI and Western Europe maps loaded since new which worked and now the device has informed me that the GB-NI map cannot be used. So now I have to figure out how to remove the map from the device . . . but there you go.

I did 30-odd miles last night including motorway driving and it worked fine, the warnings displayed correctly and I noticed a new motorway symbol shown. It is probably me!

Cheers

Mike

After getting a parking ticket in Canada for leaving my car pointing in the wrong direction (I was also using TomTom for the navigation) I understand what 0101 is looking for. Idea

In Canada and the USA when you park your car it must be left pointing in the direction of the traffic flow. Shocked

As an ignorant European I did not know this and got a parking ticket. Embarassed

This is certainly a "would be nice" but would add a lot more complexity to the routing algorithm. Also a lot of Europeans would see it as unnecessary as they do not worry about such things. I could see even more complaints. Wink

With regards the upgrade to 8.35, this certainly worked well for me. No problems with satellite locking (even worked indoors), no problems with audio level. Overall for me a trouble free update. Very Happy
