Hi folks,

I'm about to upgrade my old TomTom One to a widescreen version, but a couple of quick questions first if anyone can help, as the range of models and features seems mind boggling since I last bought one!!

1) If I buy a model with either Europe or Western Europe maps - is the mapping detail to exactly the same level of detail for the UK exactly the same as if I bought one with UK only mapping?

2) Exactly which models have an SD slot - I really don't like the fact that some models now only have internal memory.

3) Which of the models have the 'flip-out' suction cup arrangement?

Many thanks!!

I think that I'm in the same situation.

But there's also one further thing to bear in mind - some of the models (the ONE series, I think) have the Itinerary function disabled and this cannot be changed later If you use the Itinerary you may want a "better" model.

1/ The map data is nearly the same across the product range but there are subtle differences:
Most of the TomTom One/ XL devices do not use IQ Routes and as a result the IQ data is missing from the maps running on those devices. TomTom have just released One IQ-II and XL IQ-II models which do use the IQ Routes data. Other than this AFAIK the maps would be the same, there should be no difference in road content between say a European map or regional UK&ROI map.

2/ 520, 720, 920, 530, 730, 930 All have SD card slots, they can also accept the SDHC type cards up to a capacity of 32GB when running the latest software.
540, 740 and 940 have MicroSD card slots, again they can use SDHC type cards upto a 32GB capacity
None of the current One or XL devices can accept memory cards, they rely purely on internal Flash memory.

3/ If you are meaning the "Easy Port" mount this is available with the newer One and XL products, there is an accessory version of the Easy Port mount for the x20 and x30 product ranges (quite a good mount for these devices, but it needs to be purchased separately to the device).

If Itinerary Planning is a requirement then I would consider one of the Go product lines such as x20, x30 or possibly x40 steer clear of the One and XL ranges as there are too many models some with Itinerary and some without, all very confusing! - Mike

Many, many thanks for this very helpful reply Mike - you have just saved me making a costly mistake as I do indeed very much need the itinerary planning mode on my TomTom.

In the end I just ended up going for a One XL V1 with full Europe mapping for £120 brand new. At least this way I know it'll work for what I require from it. I was never really all that swayed by IQ mapping, lane help or traffic.

Many thnaks again.

Cheers!!

If you have the XL the great, if not and there is a chance you can cancel the order consider one of These it has latest maps offered within the advert and is the cheapest price I have seen that unit at to date - Mike
