|
|
Hi Guys
Last year we went to France with the Garmin C510 and as soon as we got to Paris there was very little Map detail!! Only main roads.
When I look at the Mapsource on my Pc it has all France streets? Is there a reason my C510 does not show streets?
We are going back to France at the end of June and I really need to get this sorted before we go. We dont want to get lost again! LOl If worst comes to worst I will buy another unit.

If your unit has UK+Europe mapping, it should show Paris road detail. But if it had only UK mapping on it, then it would have still shown road detail in northern France (that's on the UK map) but not down to Paris.
Can't think of anything else _________________ David

The unit I have has City Navigator Nt Europe v9. If I scroll through the unit it shows all Main Roads just not minor ones?
Thanks for the quick response!!

On my C510 I have to select the maps I want in Mapsource and then download them to the unit. I think the unit only has the UK loaded along with the standard Garmin World Basemap.
I put them on a card.
Remember the whole of Europe takes 1.5GB or so (look at the size of your PC Garmin folder), and the unit doesn't have that sort of memory!

That has done it !!! I did not realise that you had to put the maps from Mapsource to the C510 as I was told that they were perloaded. I went to France last year and paid a Taxi driver to get me to the N3 road !!Thanks for your reply.

The C510 only has enough memory for UK & I plus Europe main roads. You need at least a 1Gb card (better to have 2Gb) to download most of Europe, using Mapsource or MapInstall. When you put maps on the card use a card reader and not the Garmin. It will be much quicker! |

A card reader is usually a USB style device that can accept lots of different types of Memory card, the newer ones work at USB2 which is faster as long as your PC supports USB2, this just speeds up the process of transfering large amounts of data to and from the card. For an example of a card reader click Here - Mike |

Got it !! I have one inbuilt in my dell computer. I thought that it was a Garmin type thingy
So instead of pluging my C510 unit directly to the computer all I have to do is put the maps on a card using the reader and then plug the card into the Garmin? Will the maps that are on this card be shown on the garmin when I plug it in?
Thanks

Yes, using the card reader is usually a faster on more convenient way of loading maps - Mike |
