On my previous 520, the BT hands free never worked properly, crashed the device completely with the last word the other person said repeating endlessly.

Now on my 540 the same problem exist making handfree unusable

TT support useless as ever replying with stock answers about compatible handsets (even though I clearly stated my phone was on the compatible list), how to reset the device, the usual unhelpful rubbish

I'd like to hear from people with the same problem.

I'm sick of TT advertising these wonderful devices that work flawlessly when in actual fact there are bug ridden and have features that don't actually work

The fact is does not work on two different TT devices most likely means the problem lies with the bluetooth implementation on your handset. There seems a great difference between handsets in the way they handle bluetooth.

If you post your handset type on here there may be some others who have the same handset and TT and can comment.

I have used bluetooth hands free on a Nokia N70, N73, N95, 6680, 6230i and an HP 614c windows mobile handset. All have had the same problems. I have used about 3 different BT headsets with all of these with no problems.

Do you find it works ok?

530 & 940 Work perfectly with old Sony T630s & T610 and Nokia 6300 (think thats the number).

People find it hard to hear me when using a HTC-S710 neither TT will read or recognise text messages from it.

Do you know someone with a sony ericsson you can try, almost the entire range are compatible with TT. If it works, there is your answer.

I have a Go 540 and a Sony Ericsson W910i. I get intermittent problems when using handsfree, including the ones experienced by Drudeboy. Also, I am finding that the bluetooth does not always pair with my handset when I switch the device on. I have to power down the phone and restart it or reset my TomTom. I have tried performing a factory reset to my device but the problem persists.

I've had seven 720s, one 920 and one 730 ALL suffering from this repetition crash with my Nokia 6230i, which is definitely one of the most compatible phones.

In my case, I decided the problem came from using RDS-TMC Traffic service in combination with handsfree. I have two devices now (720 and 920) so I run 720 for handsfree and 920 for Traffic and the problem seemed to be cured. But has returned a few times recently - not enough to persuade me to suicide, just enough to refute my theory of why it happens!

I have never used TMC so that maybe rules that out. Or Not. I once suspected it was my gprs traffic on the 520 and was almost convinced, until it then randomly happened when the gprs was not in use.

I think the problem is the randomness of this, sometimes I could go a few 3-4 minute calls without a problem. But it makes it unusable for me, it can be such a pain in the middle of a mission critical call.

What ever the cause, I would reckon the bluetooth stack and protocol on a nokia handset is more likely to be better implemented to standard than on a TT device, just judging on overall software design and performance from TT. Just my opinion.

Agreed. I have had this crashing and repeating one word syndrome on every x20 I have owned 4 520s, 2 720s and a 920. I took them all back under warranty and kept exchanging them and upgrading as the price dropped. I have never found a cure for it, and again it is totally random. I have used a Motorola V3 and a Nokia 6300(?) and both are the same. Sometimes it can go weeks without doing it, but when it happens I have to do a clear flash and a hard reset to get it going reliably(?) again.

Since day one of my 520,
TomTom Faults

1 - TT Home keeps offering WRONG MAP 660 AND POSTCODE FILE.

2 - I can only connect to pc if i carry out a reset via pin hole.(Cured i think)

3 - When altering the speed limit of a road in mph,
Is 1 mile out (30 goes to 31).

4 - If i edit a built in POI (move or delete it),
it removes my warnings i have set for my POIs.

5 - When i delete one of MY POIs it shows WRONG SCREEN,
Instead of the delete button it shows dial button.
(does work as delete).

6 - Voice Stutters and breaks up.

7 - Bluetooth still crashes and sticks on one word when in a call.

Each one has been reported and standard reply, Fix on next release.
Next release, NO fix But have time to launch new models!
Iam now going to re open ALL my question history with TT until they fix it!

Solve this one easily, by downloading it to the PC but not installing it.

Falkirk81 suggested to me that I:
got a spare blank SD card, and just let home install all the old things like the v6 maps onto that
Once installed, delete everything off of the SD card and remove the card from the device. He never had any bother with it since!

As I didn't have a spare SD card to hand, I just temporarily moved some mp3 music files off my normal card and tried downloading.
In my case, it downloaded and then failed to install anyway (came up with an error), but it has cured the problem in that Home doesn't offer it any more.

I understand there are things I can do to stop been offered old versions, But TT should sort it not us.

Only a couple of lines of program code are needed to check file version on the device and only ofeer newer ones.
Most of these bugs could be sorted in 10 minutes if someone bothered to check there coding.

Iam not an expert in writing code to the level of their programmers, but most of these bugs I could fix with the knowledge i know from Visual basic!

Trouble is that if someone has a product with a software glitch WE accept it!
Iam sure if we had a problem with a new car,tv etc it would be giving back and told to fix it.
We would not wait until the next release like TT promise but never fix.
