Like the subject. I have a Blackberry 8110 running latest firmware and a tomtom 740 running latest firmware (just updated via TomTom home). Don't ask why but i asked the tomtom to do an address book update. When it had completed only the numbers were available not the name and numbers which were there before. I tried removing the blackberry from the paired devices then repairing and updating again but it still only transferred the numbers only. I then paired a nokia and it transferred name and numbers. Unpaired and tried again with the Blackberry but still only numbers. it used to give name and multiple numbers if there was any. Help!

Do you happen to have a backed up contacts.txt file you can copy back?

Never thought of that, thanks. Copied it back over from my backup now back to normal.

Many thanks, still does not explain why it will not put the details eg name in with the numbers when it copies the phonebook over but least i'm back to "normal" now.

I had this the first time I copied the phone book from my Nokia N82 and discovered that if I scrolled down the list on the TomTom 520, the names appeared, with the default number for that contact.

My feeling is that it is due to the fact that I synchronise my phone contacts with my Outlook contacts list on my pc and have multiple numbers for some contacts. For example, contacts can have a Home, Business, Fax and Other number in some cases and all the numbers appear to show before the names and alphabetical order.

I just edited the extra numbers out of the list on the TomTom.

Thanks for the all reply. I have just come off the phone with TomTom. They say sorry but they broke it with the latest firmware update. A fix will come out in a "couple of week". Least they know about it and it is not my Blackberry. They did say they had a "work around" for it which they will email me out. If i can't wait.

"madhatter" has kindly forwarded the workround that TomTom sent him.

It's not terribly technical, basically just manually creating a text file:
Quote:
If you want to create your own phone book, follow these steps

1. Connect your device to your PC and turn it on.
2. Go to My Computer and double click the removable drive 'TomTom'
3. Select FILE - NEW - TEXT DOCUMENT in the menu bar
4. Rename the new text document to 'contacts'
5. Now open this text document and create a phone book entry as follows:

Format: "-name of contact-","-phone number-"
Example: "Tom T.","+31555653314"

6. Repeat this for each phone book entry
7. Save the text document once you are done. Then copy this file into
the 'contacts' folder .If it inst there just create a new folder and
call it contacts
8. Turn off the device
9. Turn it on again and select "Mobile phone - Call - Phonebook entry"
in the main menu
10. You will now see a list of phone numbers you have just entered.

MikeAlder's spreadsheet does the same thing but rther more elegantly!
(get it from the link on the left of this page:- GPS Central/Free GPS Downloads/GPS Brands/TomTom)

P.S. Madhatter... the only reason you couldn't post it on here is that TomTom always use the "greater than"/right arrow symbol (above the full stop on a UK keyboard) to show menu sequences, but this forum doesn't like that symbol. I Just replaced them with a dash.

I know I send people to the spreadsheet solution quite often that encounter a problem with the phone book, but I didn't create it one of the forum members did quite some time ago - Mike

The soreadsheet version i downloaded yesterday was ok but hidden column f had no "," placed in after ther first row. this ommision made the entries not show up in the device.

Once i populated the fields correctly it worked fine.

Dont know who to report it to to get the donload version corrected.

Any Ideas

Ian
